Title: X-post: For Sale: Gauntlets, fencing mask, and bascinet
Post by: Sir Rodney on 2011-09-21, 13:44:45
As seen on myArmoury in this thread:

For Sale: Gauntlets, fencing mask, and bascinet (http://www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=24172)

I have my dibs in on the bascinet with perforated fencing mask.  I love DIY fixer-uppers.   ;)

PM'd the poster and made an inquiry about the fencing mask. It's always good to have a spare.  ;)

Well he took the fencing mask off the table. Pity that would have been an excellent bargain.  :(

I'm in the running for the bascinet with one other guy, but I need to see the pics first.  ;)

Ware that the mask is only 400 kN instead of 1200 or 1600.

Yes I did catch that but I was looking to use it more as a spare "light" drill loaner and not to be used for full speed with intent steel/aluminum blade free play.  ;)

Received just today...  One klapvisor bascinet with pierced grill!!  I just couldn't let this pass for $70.  :o

The crown and visor are 14 gauge mild steel while the area that protects the neck is 16 gauge.  The visor hinge is held to the helm via a very nice locking spring pin system.  The brass vervelles are well mounted and lining holes have already been drilled.  This is obviously meant for SCA rattan combat, but I hope to use it for WMA practice as well.  Unfortunately, the visor holes are too big for SCA cut & thrust swordplay (1/4" vs. the SCA maximum 1/8").  I'll have to have a custom visor built in the future...
