finally after all these years i finally managed to fully mount one of my 2 poleax heads on the shaft! yeah!!!!!!!!!
-
Awesome! Pictures please... :)
-
Woo! Where did you pick up the shafts? Was it the square ones at Home Depot that a few people seem to recommend? Ash, I think?
-
Pics or it didn't happen! lol

the ash shaft i bought from a friend. he gave me a shorter one that the unmounted pole ax head is going to go on too. i wanted one of both sizes like you see in a lot of period paintings, but most reenactors don't have the shorter version.
-
Wow they look great! :)
*Now I have poleaxe envy!* ;)
-
Nice! Yeah I still need to mount a pair of heads I have as well. I just need to decide what to use for the poles.
-
Nicely done! I see a tiny "Sir Wolf Jr" in the background as well. ;)
-
Nice work Sir Wolf!

I may be in the minority here, but poleaxes hold my attention and fascination more so than other medieval weapon types. *ducks*

A replacement wheelbarrow handle from your local big-box hardware store works great. They are 5' long and give you a finished product between 5'6" and 6' in length which is historically correct for some poleaxes. I made a little tutorial a while back on myArmoury:

yes! thank you. i know i had forgotten something. duh the rondel!!!! guess i will be making that this week hehehe many thanks!
-
Nice job, Sir Wolf!
-
made a rondel but I'm not happy with it. i put the rivet holes on the flats instead of the 45s. thus the langets are in the way so i will make another one now later ehheheh

as seen here:

Before you chuck the rondel in the scrap bin, here's an idea that might work. Pull the bottom arming nail from each langet and use those holes to secure both the langet and a bracket. On the non-langet sides just attach the brackets normally. I don't know if this method is historically accurate or feasible, but it's worth a look before chucking a nicely dished rondel. :)

I need polearms.

Check out the beautiful reproduction by Ben Anbeek of The Upperclass Reenactment Goods (http://www.theupperclass.nl/) (Netherlands) that he posted on myArmoury.

The rondel itself looks fine. I believe the rivet holes should be on the flats as you've done. So I'd try Rodney's suggestion.
-
Nice job Sir Wolf.

ugg, to punch out that. its a solid shank peen on both ends.
-
I didn't realize you had drilled through the haft and peened the rivet on both ends. It could be removed with some careful work on a drill press, but you might be better off making a new rondel. :(
-
well good news. i made a new rondel. bad news i don't have any small bar stock. i tried using some brass bar stock but it was too brittle by the time i started riveting and they cracked. so we'll look tomorrow to see what i can find.

here we go. 3 of the 4 15thc pole weapons. the 4th is a poleaxe like the one on the left only on a short staff.
-
just got the second "shorter" pole axe hafted! successful day!
-
Looking great!
Man, I need to get up off my butt and haft mine too.

Bring me my Dane Axe and Clear Understanding.
