Well theres a ren faire in mercer county NJ, wondering if anyone wants to come? I am bringing some of my friends with me as well, and my group of friends scheduled a meeting for it on the 14th.
-
I'll be there in my 17th century kit on Sun. the 15th with the Polish reenactors. PaRF rehearsal is Sat. so I can't make it then.
-
I sadly won't make it as I have work both days. A bummer, but I will make it to the NJ Ren Faire.
-
Sir Ulrich, is that this weekend?
-
I believe it is this weekend. My group of friends is coming with me to it on the 14th but I am beginning to think sunday would be better because I could meet with different people. Or I could somehow talk my folks into going both days >_> if thats even possible.
Just talked my folks into taking me both days, worked out pretty easily. So I'm gonna be there both the 14th and 15th.
-
Cool! Come look me up over on the reenactor side Sun. I'll be portraying an English Mercenary with the Polish reenactors. They should be pretty easy to find, they wear very distinctive armor. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to throw the brig on or not. I'm most likely coming as a musketeer and by the mid 17th century (what the Polish guys are doing) most musketeers had given up armor but I will probably bring it along and may throw it on for a bit.
-
Was there for the first day, Met a whole bunch of new people and even sparred a bit. Will be looking forward to going there tomorrow as well, I broke out of my shell quite a bit actually, looks like video chats on skype actually help me socialize more >_>
-
Awesome...you took pics I hope?
-
Yup, plenty on my FB and whatnot, I'll post them here if you'd like to see them.

Me with Sir Matthew and his friend and my friend
-
Cool! So how did you like the faire? From the photos, I'm guessing they're using a park area, with a section of vendor tents somewhere? Most small faires start out this way, if they don't have huge corporate backing to get started.
-
I need that shield...it looks much better than the one I currently have. Thanks for sharing those pics, Sir Ulrich...looks like you guys had a blast! What's your friend on the right have in his paper bag there?

Can't see that but thanks Sir Wolf...it actually gives page numbers! LOL
Hey, I just realized, that's Sir Matthew on the other side of Sir Ulrich in his hande gonner (sp) kit.

Thats kettle corn in the bag lol
Only problem with that shield is that I remember you said you were left handed, and it only comes in right handed I believe. It shouldn't be too hard to make though, just need a shield blank and some canvas and padding and there you go. The padding actually makes the shield absorb blows much easier.
-
YEp, that was me. I was playing an English mercenary with the 17th century Commonwealth of Poland and Lithuania reenactors. I got to shoot an Arquebus earlier in the day, but it was too damp and rainy to fire the Handgonne and my musket was out of commision with a broken trigger. I offered to be truely period and push the serpentine and match into the pan by hand (I'd wear a glove of course) but Bryan (the guy on the other side of me in the pictures) lent me his Arquebus. It's a small faire but still nice with a different vendor set than I typically see.

I enjoyed it pretty well, I been to this one 2 times previously and it seems to be the one I have the best luck at. It was in a park and it was quite small, I actually prefer the small ones because it's got less of a crowd and whatnot and I can hang around people and ask them questions.

You're right...but hey, might give me an excuse to learn to fight righty...since my last sword commission rig ended up being righty oriented as well. :)

Great pictures and great garb! Your kit is looking great Mat! :)

Wow, you're right I do look cynical. It wasn't really intentional but it makes me look like the veteran who's seen and done it all. I especially like how the pic captures my helmet and the hat underneath all cocked and crooked, like I just slapped the helmet over the hat, which is exactly what I did. That Monmoth cap is thicker than my arming cap and serves that purpose just as good.
-
My point exactly...its like you're saying "...look at these raw recruits marching about w/no idea what real war is!"
lol
