Title: More MD Renn Fest changes announced
Post by: Sir James A on 2011-04-13, 19:58:55
http://www.hometownannapolis.com/news/top/2011/04/11-19/Renaissance-fest-changing-acts.html

Hack and Slash gone!?!? I've seen them every time I've gone, even over 15 years ago. I still have a cassette tape they sold back in the late 90s.

I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing - time will tell. But knowing the favorite acts won't be there has put a damper on it for me, as it's half the fun for us.

Yeah, there are a bunch of changes this year I hear. They've basically said that a good portion of their attendance does rely on there being a gradual evolution. That a lot of people have no real reason to return if the faire never updates and everything is always the same.

In the case of Hack and Slash, there was a year a while back where they didn't come (or they had a reduced run, or something, hard to remember) because they were trying to play hard-ball and asked for too much money.

As they mention in the article, we'll also have to get used to limited ticket sales this year. The ridiculously crowded days will get capped. Theoretically this doesn't impact the season-pass holders, but it could be a real shock to people showing up late on the busy days expecting to buy a ticket at the door.

I try not to buy tickets at the door...except for that one time when I lost them somewhere in the parking field...I generally don't go for the shows, I go for the people.

MD is kind of far for me. ;)

Consider the Minnesota Renaissance Festival (http://www.renaissancefest.com/MRF/) if anyone will be in the upper Midwest this year.  My usual routine is:

Beer
Arms & Armour (http://www.armor.com/) booth
Beer
The New Riders of the Golden Age (http://www.warhorse.com/) jousting show
Beer
Scotch Egg(s)
Beer
Puke & Snot (http://www.magaga.com/Home.html) comedy troop
etc...

I did say I went for the 'people' (you may read that to equal buxom wenches) - I figured the food and drink were par for the course.  I must say, the food itself is excellent fare; I enjoy the steak on a stake and the beer quite a bit when I'm there.  More, probably, than I should when encased in armor but hey- this is what we do.

Sir Rodney, sounds like a perfect day to me.

Ahhh.....I see we are referring to the legendary RennFaire Cleavage Fairy.
And how much is a season pass?

I believe the forever passes are still around $80.00 which is exceptionally reasonable. :)

Ok. SO can you buy them from the MDRF website?

I believe so...in fact I'm debating on whether or not to get them for myself.  I figure I'll attend more often knowing my brother knights are out there...but am not sure I could convince my wife to go each time.  She does like it, but not nearly as much as I do.

Sadly, I will most likely only make one trip to MdRF this year. I'm on cast at PaRF, so this will limit my trips elsewhere during the run of PaRF. If any of you happen up to Pa, be sure to stop in at the Trayned Band camp and see me. And don't miss the cannon demo, as I will be part of the gun crew. I don't know any details yet, only that I have been told faire bought a gun and we were asked to provide a crew for it.

we will need to plan a PARF trip this year just to see you in action.  who has what weekend open?

With the exception of the first two weeks in June, I'm open.  I think we should visit the NJ and PA Faires...Stormdelver's in cast at NJ and Matt's at PA.  I wonder how far the two are from one another?  Could we do an overnighter and hit NJ on Sat maybe PA on Sun or something like?

I'm sure they probably do not allow for overnighters but there's gotta be a campground near there somewhere that we can use.  Just a thought.

PARF doesn't open til August. One weekend isn't going to work.

Faires are roughly 2 hours apart, but running at different times. I'm making a Jersey trip most likely on the last Sun. of that faire.
