LOL, I love these threads! Makes me realize just how deep I've gotten myself...

Finish stitching my fauld to my arming coat
Haft for poleaxe
Haft for halberd
Haft for lochaber axe
Trim and size haubergeon
Get gorget and armet playing nicely / make pattern for new gorget lames
Replace modern laced points with braided waxed points w/chapes
Buttonhole stitch all the eyelets on arming coat
Add reinforced leather points to pourpoint
Add reinforced leather points to gambeson
Misc strap upgrades / replacement; get rid of the "looped leather" buckle attachment and use proper steel mounts
Assemble great helm from James Arlen Gillespie helm kit
Padded chausses
Padded knee wraps (bulwarks)
Ties for pants to make getting the greaves on easier without fabric trying to escape constantly
Replace simple rear leather straps on pair of cuisses with historical large leather piece with integral strap
Mantle and torse
Mount my crest to helmet somehow
Find my missing voider so I can sew them to the arming coat (seriously, how do you lose armor??)
Trim chausses to fit feet
Make a mail standard
Make cheater chausses for behind cuisses
Attempt my first sword belt

Reasonably sure I'm forgetting some things, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head. I have issues... :)

Well I've gotten my end of all my projects done. They're in the stage of completion by the skilled artisan, BJ the seamstress!

Bascinet-getting bad butted maille aventaille replaced by period (and more functional) padded aventaille, added breaths on left side for vision.

Riveted maille cheater chausses- removed blackening, cut them to shape. Getting them lined now
Hauberk- adjusted sleeves for tighter fit, added neck closure system, moved support belt to natural waist, padded "mittens" of maille

And a little something very special indeed.....  ;D

Let's see...
Wake up. Check.
Breathe. Check.
Eat. Check.
Nap. Check.
Listen to wife. Check.
Eat. Check.
Sleep. Check.
Work. Check.
Repeat cycle.
Did I forget to breathe again??  ???

Plus, my wife says that I'm a project. Does that count??

I''ve got 2 to finish in the next week and i I would like to get done in that same time frame, but I'm not sure it will happen.

(hand)Sew a period sack for carrying rations and eating gear.

(hand)Sew a better looking and more funcional Snapsack (and if we can coordinate schedules teach another one of my reenactor freinds how to make one).

Repair my poor broken Matchlock Musket. The front barrel pin assembly rusted and the pin is now stuck in place. I've been working on her for a week now to get the pin out so I can the piece that it goes through on the barrel rewelded to the barrel and then put the barrel back on the stock. This Musket is a simply beautiful piece, but a constant problem child.

My linen should arrive today so I should be able to work ony pourpoint when I get home next weekend.  (I'm only home Friday night through Sunday afternoon for the next while, thanks Navy)

Once that's done I hope to commission a new breastplate with fauld, and I'm considering donating a kidney for a nice plaque belt.

after months of procrastination,
I'm finally getting back to my FUBAR of a first attempt of a gambeson, making a cappa clausa/robe/surcoat/habit thingy, and trying desperately to get my kit at least somewhat presentable for this coming saturday to make a good first impression with the local duchy of the Adrian Empire :D

BTW Sir Wolf, I'd glady take that pot helm off your hands :D looks really good from where I'm sitting.

Isn't that always the case? When and if we ever find our camera I'll have to post up my projects as well.  But Sir Wolf, your banner pole looks fine!  I'm looking forward to seeing what your helmet looks like, I do like em painted up.

i plan on puttin a spike in the bottom of the pole since i don't have a portable hole. hopefully it'll hold. it did in an American flag i did once, but that was on a shorter pole

No portable hole? Did you look in your bag of infinite holding?

Or make one...

lol i thought about buying some square stock and making my own. but what i did was just as good. i took a garden spike nail (the kind used to hold the wooden rail ties) and cut the head off. then drilled the bottom of the pole and filled it full of glue. then pounded the spike in the hole. WALLA it now can stand in the yard with no issues of falling over

"infinite bag of holding"? don't you mean a large carpet bag that's "practically perfect in every way?"  ;)

Sir Wolf, I do like your idea of the garden spike.  What kind of glue did you use to withstand the elements? Gorilla Glue, epoxy of some form?  I too, would love to make a spear banner, and to make some form of spiked holder for it would just be extra awesome.

cool.  KISS method  :)
yeah, right now, I'm trying to make 4 yards of fabric which I'm sure was enough when I started, become enough fabric for the cappa clausa/habbit/robe thingy  ;D
doesn't help I'm built like a barn door, or rather maybe a barrel lol

that, and trying to translate what they're trying to explain here lol I wish it was the cm to inches that was the problem lol  ;D

well, my banner got another section added to it. it seems it was period for a knight to have his country first before his colors. so i am adding the white background and the red cross of st George.  also thinking about painting my rampant lion and shells on it as well. as if i didn't have enough crap to do.

That's pretty cool to know!  I wonder when Scotland started flying the Cross of St. Andrew?  I'd love to have that on the front of my banner!

Also, I completed my cappa clausa/habit/robe in seven hours in one night.  Very cool looking.  I love the 54" hood on it as well.  I had to smidge ideas for the hood, as it doesn't look like there were pleats used back then, but I wanted a wider hood as well.  We found our camera, but still no charger for it  :o ::) fricken leprechauns! :D

Put the points on the inside not the outside

huh i am not following lol. the way i've always done it is put both point ends from the inside of the jacket to the outside, then thru the armour. being that this is mail i will have a piece of leather on top of the mail to take some of the load off when i tie.
Title: Re: any projects going on in the order?
Post by: Ian on 2013-04-25, 21:46:30
For a padded jacket, where the hem is about mid-thigh length, if you point your legs to the inside of the jacket, you will have better range of motion.  If you point to the outside front of the jacket, the jacket itself will interfere with range of motion and fit of the chausses.  From the outside, it will also cause your chausses to pin the jacket to the front of your legs, which you want to avoid.  The jacket should hang over the front of the chausses instead.  Or just use a seprate vest but we know that's not really historical.

Do the opposite. Points on the inside. Like if you flipped it inside-out. Then the chausses don't sit over the coat, they sit under it. Tried it with my arming coat & cuisses, I like it. Also keeps the mail from banging the cuisses, since the jacket is in-between. Can take pics if you need them.

Ah quit your bellyaching! At least you will have a banner! I got word from Isabella E that she won’t be able to ship mine out until the end of May! :'(

Your banner looks awesome!  :)

Hey btw, that is a great looking rampant lion on your banner. Is it embroidered or an appliqué and if it is an appliqué how big is it? I’m thinking about the child sized William Marshal surcoat I’m having made or will end up making myself since I haven’t been able to get a hold of my seamstress these past two weeks.  :-\

I just ordered a mace from Wulflund. A flanged one to be exact, it cost me 125 USD, with the shipping it's 145. Currently I am saving aluminum beverage cans to fill with water and have a smashing fest with my new mace when it comes. Not sure when it will arrive but the handle will be 60CM which I think is a decent reach.

Saving cans is a great idea. We do the same with plastic bottles and sharp swords. Doesn't cost anything but the water to fill them. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I spent the day modifying my mail chausses and attaching them to the c-belt I bought a while back. I had to modify that too. So far so good, suspension seems comfortable. But combat is the real test, and although I practice with my pell each week, I haven't fought since last fall.  :-[

Yeah I got to get to work on cleaning mine, my main issue is last time I cleaned mine my hands were rubbed raw from cleaning them, NOT looking forward to getting dry raw hands from it, even with gloves on I still got rubbed raw cause I had to feel the maille to make sure the oil was gone.

Just remembered I have a Von Atzinger inspired War shield sitting in storage to replace the one that got too small and I think I can even Guige strap it with a lot of modification.

So that's: Buckler- Enlarge hand grip; Old Tourney Shield- make into Centergrip kite; Old Too-Dang-Heavy War Shield- Turn into Tourney shield.

I have to still stencil the griffin and get some more bias tape for the bottom border but all in all not bad for a couple hours work on the machine which worked a lot faster after I realized I still had the heavy thread loaded on it for armor undergarments.  :-[

Looks good, Sir Wolf. Is the banner cap period?

Sir Edward, I don't have a portable hole either. I have directions on how to make one, but I lack a welder and heat source to forge the rings..

Those are great looking banners Sir Wolf and Sir Brian!
Sir Brian, where did you find checkered bias tape? That's pretty nifty, I was actually planning on making my own bias tape from scratch for my gambeson, but I've been reluctant because of how much hair pulling that would cause.

Sir Ulrich, you sir must have dainty hands!  ;D I kid
Oiling and maintaining your mail should be something you enjoy and take pride in, as it's part and parcel to armour responsibilities.  Besides that, it builds character ;) (I kid again)

beyond that, still having a SNAFU on the home front trying to find the battery charger for the damned camera.... guess I'll just have to post lots of pics in a row!

Well I bought a roll at Michael's Craft store but when I checked for more today they didn't have anymore but I'm sure it is still being made. So my banner won't have a bottom border. :-\

Haven't been able to post pics yet, but I restrapped my greaves, stole the buckles that didn't match the rest of the harness, cut up a "D-Ring" belt and made it into a sword belt (I needed a 3rd one), and tweaked my helmet and gorget to fit better - it's still not good, but, it's better. Hoping to get Allan to make me a new one before VARF.
