Greetings fellow chivalric enthusiasts,
I'm a newbie to medieval reenactment from Ohio. I was first interested when I saw an SCA demo at a local library's comic con style event, and I have been trying to gather together a heavy kit for almost the past year. I've been having to make most of it because it has been incredibly difficult to find armor even close to my size (I am incredibly small).
My original period was late 13th to early 14th century, however the armor of that period proved to be too light to withstand some of the fighters in my area (and I'm trying to be relatively accurate, so avoiding plastic). Now I'm in the process of making a set of early 15th century English armor (specifically around 1420 to 1430). Hopefully I will have a few good pics of some of the initial pieces around June.
I'm also a cosplayer, and you may notice that some times bits and pieces of my historical armor will serve double duty as parts of my costumes. For example, my 15th century armor will also be used as Rhaegar Targaryen's tournament armor for an upcoming convention (deadlines are a nice motivator). Once I started researching how real armor actually fit and worked the lessons I learned helped me improve a lot of the cosplay armor that I make. One of my friends has actually asked me to make a youtube video about how to use these historical techniques to make more comfortable cosplays.
I would like to say how cool it is to have a forum like this, and I hope to be able to contribute something worthwhile.
Sincerely,
Edward Beaumont

Welcome!
Where abouts in Ohio are you? Cleftlands?

I'm originally from the Middle March area, but I've been away at school in An Tir for the past two years. I'm moving back in August, but Ohio never stoped being the place I called home.

Excellent! I grew up In the Silver Desert, Cynagua, West Kingdom (Reno, NV) but I too went to school in An-Tir up in the Three Mountains (Portland).

Welcome to the forum (& from SCA East). :)

Welcome! I have a lot of friends who do cosplay who I keep encouraging to look at our very own Ian's Knyght Errant videos to see how armor functions.

Ha I know the feeling the youtube video idea came after a friend of mine complained that she couldn't sit down in her "armor" (Camilla from Fire Emblem for anyone curious). my response was "that's because your fauld is glued into a single piece and your tassets are where your cuisses should be." I had to sit her down with the reliant videos while I fixed it.
