A couple of us did a little fun event close to us in Clitheroe Castle and there was a local net based tv crew there.
They filmed and put together this little advert for us. We are hoping to do more work with these guys in the future.

Hey, this is awesome! Any time you can get people interested in anything medieval, it rocks in my book. Love the accents too! Lady de Jarpanville can handle a sword...that's awesome. Do you guys do any choreography or you're just so used to one another you can ad-lib a swordfight convincingly?
-
Thank you for your kind words Sir William.
We don`t choreograph completely, we all train to safe standards then mostly anything goes. As you can see by Sir Richard and my champions fight, they don`t get together very frequently ha ha.
Most of us have a partner that we work best with and we usually work certain GAG`s into a routine that work well to entertain the crowd.
We don`t profess to be swordsmen when doing our shows, but some of us do work to WMA type standards when not displaying to the MOPS.

The accents are real too lol :D :D

I believe it!

Yeah, that's one advantage on being over on that side of the pond. You should hear some of the atrocious fake accents over here. Then again, some people only half-attempt it anyway, or don't bother at all, since it's more the garb and ambiance that draw people to the renfaires.
-
I never attempted to take on an accent...if only because I have no idea how it is supposed to sound. Given the background I've created for myself, a Norman transplant in Ireland...should I sound vaguely French with a bit of brogue thrown in for good measure? Should I speak just Norman French? I dunno. I am what I am no matter what I sound like.

Very nice! It looks like you guys put on a fun show for everyone. I like everyone's kits too :)
-
Excellent Sir Gerard! My most sincere compliments to you and your fine company for all the great work you are doing to keep the ideals, lifestyle and history of the middle ages alive and well in the hearts and minds of so many younglings (and quite a few of us older ones as well! ;) )
Huzzah and well done and may the Lord always bless and keep you all!
-
Very cool! Loved the kits, and a real castle is something we never see at our events here! If only your group wasn't on the other side of the pond...

I intend on visiting the U.K. within the next few years...I hope to meet up with these guys whenever that does occur.

Sir William, et all,
I would love nothing more than to be your first port of call, should you wish to visit our little rock. Please don`t hesitate in contacting me, should you decide to cross the pond.
I can`t guarantee you would get an unbiased tour as I definitely have my favorite medieval sites. lol
Thank you all for your kind words, I really consider it a compliment. We try our best to entertain and educate our visitors/guests in the ways of the medieval world. Some of us even try to impart some of the ideals of chivalry ;)
One of the venues that we play in is Beaumaris castle in Anglesey, where they have a chapel. We always run a full knighting ceremony of one of our squires. This goes down well with the MOPS. Then we hold a tourney where the newly knighted squire gets to proove his prowess. If I get a copy of the video I will post a link.

Oh please do! I would love to see that! :)

Same here!

Well here`s a photograph of my son Daniel ( Ralph de Rodes) and myself, during the last few moments of his vigil in the chapel at Beaumaris castle.

Feel free to look through the rest of the photo bucket ( most of the photo`s are a bit crap)

wow thats really cool

How long did he hold vigil? That was an excellent shot.
-
That video was great. Good kits, a real castle ... a true "playground" for us "kids"!

Well Sir William, as we have so much other stuff going on throughout the day, the vigil usually lasts from when the castle opens (about 9am) to when we do the ceremony (about 12.30) so they aren`t on their knees or lying on the damp floor for too long. I know, we are much to lenient lol ;) As the candidate is to be at prayer throughout, we have a brother monk who potters about doing priestly type things and interacts with the MOPS, explaining the significance of the clothing etc and what is going on. A couple of the Lords and knights in the group stop by to pray and spend time with the candidate, so we also can help with any explanaitions etc.
It`s loads of fun for us all, and we all ( even the youngsters) have a part to play in the days proceedings.
Beaumaris Castle is by far my favourite place and since I saw the chappel there, I have wanted to do this. It also has the most amaizing accoustics so medieval music (Instrument and/or voice) sounds fantastic.

Sounds like it was a BLAST, Sir G- and congrats to your son. I remember seeing a picture of him scoring on Sir David (de Jarpanville) - a great shot as well.
What is MOPS?
-
M.O.P.s = Members Of the Public. ;)
G
-
Oh...thought it might be but I wasn't making the acronymic connection- I just kept referring to them in my mind as 'Muggles'. I know...I'm a Potter fan. lol
-
I love the various terminology that springs up for this. In "geocaching", they use the term Muggles to refer to the unwashed masses.
At the renfaires, we use the term "Danes"... short for "mundanes" :)
-
I like Danes! lol

lol :D

I like MOPS as well though...and Muggles.
