Title: Bonfire of the Fencer
Post by: Todd Sullivan on 2009-07-20, 03:23:34
Somewhere...out there...Ed and Cat are between the Sterling Renn Faire and Virginia :)  I have to say what a pleasure it was to meet and make new friendships with such fine people as Ed and Cat.  One can not ask for nicer people.  At Sterling...with coconuts in hand....our good friend Chris Torres claked away and Ed and I galloped through Sterling...receiveing standing ovations.

There was excellent bouting at the pond and just a wonderful weekend that I think all enjoyed.

Thank you Ed and Cat for making such a long journey to be with us and hope you return.

I have over 300 photos to go through but I will leave you with some pics to enjoy.

Thank you again very much for inviting me and Kat to the Bonfire!! You are a most gracious host, and I am honored to count you amongst my friends. We had a great time.

I have quite a few photos too, but not nearly as many. I'm working on getting them posted. I may do a bulk upload to my website without processing them, since they look pretty good without touch-ups from what I can see.

Haha, that pic with the bandanna is great. I am the Liechtenauer Ninja! :)

EDIT: For those who weren't there: Picture #6 above (second from the bottom) is Christian Tobler doing some test-cutting with a period-original antique bill.

May I take some of your photos for my website?

The Sterling shot is fantastic!

I've said it elsewhere, but I'll say it again: I'm super jealous that I didn't get to go.

As you know, David and I always quote Liechtenauer with an Asian accent. "The squwintuh bweaks what a buffawo stwikes..." We're also quite certain Liechtenauer could fly and fight while walking on bamboo stalks.

Yeah, the VAF folks have seen all my cool t-shirts, but they were new to most of the bonfire folks. :)

You have no idea how badly I wanted to go.  So, I'm contenting myself by gorging on photos instead.  Looks like a grand time!  I would have loved to watch Ed and Christian.

At Sterling, the below pics where a great reward for wearing harness.  These two wonderful children said "we like kids stuff" as I spoke to them in a soft french accent.

Excellent! Rosemary and I are sorry we missed you all (we were at Sterling Faire last weekend).  :(
It would have been great to also see some skilled swordmanship skills displayed!
(hopefully someday we'll get to a class nearby!)

Thanks for sharing these great pictures!  :)

@Brian: Indeed, it's a shame you missed it! I think you'd have had a great time. Also, we probably would have roped you into our Monty-Python gallop across the site with the coconut shells. :)

@Todd: Those pics are great! It's really fun when the kids are in awe. Sometimes it really makes my day, when I am able to make their day. :)

Looks like you guys had one helluva time!

Oh yes, the bonfire was a blast. One thing I really liked about it was how informal it was. We had plenty of martial-like activities going on, but without a hard schedule of classes. The latter is wonderful too, of course, but it's nice to have an alternative too.
