I need some knightly gents for a friend of mine's Lion's Club Big to do Banquet. I believe it is called "Knights for the Blind" or something like that. My friend is the region VP and would love to have us come, have a display, talk to people, dress up, etc. Can anyone help me with this? It would just be an evening say 6-8pm approx. Not sure 100% on all the details. I believe it's like a "social" for all the local Lions groups that raise money for the Blind etc.
-
I'll have to say "maybe" at this point. I need to look at how the schedule lines up with other things, such as DoK and anything we might be doing that's faire-related.

I think I would be okay for this. It’s a Saturday evening so I can leave after work and even if I return late I’ll still be able to go to MDRF the next day. However if I’m going to ride out there and put on armor I will have to hit somebody SO I’ll pick up another waster and the two of us can do some harnischfechten if nobody else will be able to make it! ;)
-
Maybe as well, with DoK the following weekend I won't know until closer to that time with getting time off work and such too. :(
-
Nothing on my calendar as of yet; would need a reminder as we get closer to it as things have a tendency to pop up. I was in Hagerstown for a couple of weekends a few years back as an extra in an indie zombie flick they were filming at the local movie theatre. I'm not sure you could even call that a town. lol
-
just an update. would love to have some guys come and hang out. free nice yummy dinner. maybe a sword demo. get to lay out your gear and have lotsa people look and oooo and aaaaaaaaa over it lol. get to hang out with me
-
I hung out w/you already Chuck, that's not sweetening the deal. ;)
I'm kidding of course; I think I'm still good for it. I put it on my work calendar for now.
-
This is a shorter drive than going to work lol. Since I'm likely not making Days of Knights, I can probably do this. :)
-
awesome.
anyone else?
hmmmm any thoughts to a demo? or should we just set stuff up for show n tell?
-
Sounds like fun. I will see if I can do it. Does hanging out with Chuck require bringing a noose? :)
-

I don't really feel like doing any combat, but I'll armor up.

Nah, Chuck's a cool guy. Obsessed with goats though...
-
Count me in!
-
I'm probably OK to do this as well. Any additional details about the event? Times?
-
i will get that as well as the directions etc.
the only thing we have to do besides provide the "ambiance" is guard/walk in with my mom's friend who is hosting the event. he's sorta a big shot in the Lion word and a killer nice guy.
thanks guys! it means a lot, plus i get to see everyone hehehe
-

It's bound to happen once every 2 or 3 years ;)
-
I may end up having to be in Philadelphia that day and may not be able to leave until 4:30, so which would mean I'd arrive at 8pm. How late is the event going?
-
i will talk to the grand poohbah (lol) aka my friend the top lion of the area and let u know.
-
You want me to just bring some gear for people to look at, or want me to armor up too?
-
yes, i am doing both.
-
yes, i am doing both.
Can do! But I'm not going to wear a 15th century arming coat with 12th century armor. I'll farb things up, but, I have limits... ;)
-
Any more info on this? Times of day? Event schedule?
What should we plan on bringing? Armor & swords show-and-tell, I'm assuming. Do we want to do a fight demo?
-
ok i will call Mr John tomorrow at work and get the schedule all ironed out. sorry i haven't gotten it done yet, I'm the only one working this summer so I have 0 down time.
displays
wear garb/armour
fighting demo
talk to public when they walk up to our area
walk in w/ John Parker (key note speaker of the night and host)
need to get who is going to be there so i can give them numbers for food. women's are welcome.
-
I'll be there and can do "show and tell", but I'm not up for doing any combat. I'm happy to do announcing / referee / judge / score keeper / whatever-we-call-it

-
Still good for me. I'll judge / ref if needed, but I'm not fighting.
-
ok. i'm not "trained" enough to fight. so i'd be dangerous. and i currently dont have health insurence so my wife doesnt want me doing crazy things hahahaha
-
I'll be there. Free food and a chance to fight I'm there. You going to make it Sir Edward and/or Sir Nathan?
-
Yep, sounds good.
-
ok sweet. Sir Brian, Edward, James and myself will pull this off with great honor!
Sir Brian and Sir Edward, would you like to do a demo while Sir James officiates? Let me know so I can include it in the Lion's Schedule.

Absolutely! There WILL be fighting! ;D
-
great. i told my good mother that there will be 4 of us so John will pay for our dinners. thanks everyone! it'll be a fun night for sure!
-
I'm not going to be able to make it, gents - I'll be in PA, moving furniture. I won't make it back in time to rest up and head out to Hagerstown. I'm sorry Chuck, I know I said I'd be there.

Sir Wolf:
About this part I’ve highlighted in red, does John Parker want use to escort him into the banquet in our full armor sort of like a color guard?
Also will they be able to provide us with a couple of fold up tables with table cloths for our displays?
Sir Edward:
If we are going to escort Mr. Parker in our full armor then we could perhaps do both blossfechten in armor with our fencing masks then switch to our helms and do harnischfechten?
-
OK, we're getting down to the wire. We'll need to know the address, what sort of venue, etc. How much space will we have to work with?
Sir Edward:

Possibly. The armor makes blossfechten really strange, in how it limits how you move and so forth. We might have to pick one, or change gear with a break between demos or something.
Well, we have all week to think about it. :)

Sir Wolf provided those particulars in an earlier post, however we do need to ensure they do not reserve our fighting space under one of those chandeliers! http://www.clarionhagerstown.com/meeting-capacity.htm (http://www.clarionhagerstown.com/meeting-capacity.htm) ;)

Very true! We’d need at least 20 – 30 minutes for a change. Perhaps do the Q&A and blossfechten before the dinner, then armor up and do the harnischfechten midway into the dinner and the speechifying?
-
I'm assuming he's coming in prior to everything starting or very early on? If so, I should be armored up by then, and you guys could be in blossfechten gear w/swords and such? Joint escort sort of thing?
I'm thinking if we have time, and you guys are up for it, we could do a two-part show. Blossfechten before dinner, have dinner and time to cool down, then after dinner, do a presentation on armoring up. That'll get you guys in armor, keep entertaining people, and Chuck and I can help w/that and talk while getting ready. Then after that, you guys can do the harnessfechten demo.
I'm just not feeling up for combat. :( It'll be 5 days until we leave for Days of Knights; I've got stuff I'm still building, tweaks to make on my armor, and some clothing repair too. I don't want to risk injury right before the event, both from a cost and "get things finished" perspective. :)

That has a lot of possibilities! I would be up for it. How about you Sir Edward?
-
ok yes we will need to be in armour at the beginning. i am unsure about the total amount of time we will have but there is a lot of stuff the lions will have so we may not need to do any fighting at all. i will call john again today. i am sorry i have had a hell of a time at work lately being by myself and trucks breaking down and not being able to be fixed.
i think we are like a escort, or color guard etc. more show for his "Knights of the Blind" etc
but we do get to eat well ;)
-
Well if it turns out to be a straight up armored gig and they still want a bit of fighting, then we could just do some harnischfechten. I’ll bring both my great helm and bascinet.
So just to be clear: I won’t have to rehearse a modified introduction since we won’t be doing a full blown longsword demonstration?
~ (i.e. we going to be walking/talking accouterments.) ???
-
Whether they want fighting or not, Sir Brian will hit *somebody* with a sword. :D
-

Exactly! I have a brand new Hollow Earth waster that needs to be tried out! ;D
-
OK, then yeah, some clarification on whether we're fighting or not will help out a lot. It might determine which kit I wear. I'm up for escorting and looking pretty, if that's what we're needed for. :)
I'll get all my gear ready in any case.
If the event starts at 6, we might want to aim to be there at 5, since armor alone can take 30+ minutes sometimes.
-
ya lets get there at 5. john says we can use his room to change etc. i will be in my plate (if it fits) for the entire time. i think they want a lil fighting but you don't need to go all out and this is my boom stick introductions etc , waiting on him to call me back
-

OK great. So maybe what we might do is just a little bit of light harnessfechten? Kinda explain how it works, and do a few exchanges? But otherwise just look pretty. :)
-
Additional Question:
My wife -might- be available on Saturday, so we were wondering if people are bringing wives, etc, and what the food availability is.
I think she's unlikely to be able to go, but the question was raised.

That will work. I’ll bring my COP as well then. It will be sweet to test out my new waster!
Sir James:
Did I happen to forget my black leather sword frog with your gear from VARF? It’s the one we used for the daggers and has a brass ring.

Yep! It's here in safe keeping, being guarded by a moat, two dragons, and one two-headed dragon. :)
-
Awesome! Thanks! :)
-
Awesome! Thanks! :)
You're welcome. But... I have no idea how to get it out of such a secure location. ;)
-
about hte ladies, i am unsure how much dinner is but i do know that all 4 of us are covered by john himself. so hmmmm the dinner is part of their fundraiser and i'm pretty sure its not cheap. i think we are his "representation" of the "Knights of the Blind" cause.
-
OK, it turns out she IS available, but I might let her know it's not practical for her to tag along.
-

If she wants to go, I'll skip dinner and she can have mine. It's difficult for me to eat much in full harness anyway. :)

I will likely pass on dinner as well, electing to grab something on the way because in all honesty I have difficulty feeding myself with any semblance of table manners while fully armored and I absolutely REFUSE to allow Sir Wolf the perverse satisfaction and opportunity to ‘feed’ me! :P
-
lol ahhah well, 4 dinner have been paid for. so if you don't wanna eat yummy meals then i guess it won't be "on" you hahahah
-
I'll eat if possible, I'm just willing to forego it so that Kat can go and have dinner too. I'm good either way.
-
we can share Kat......... wait that sounded wrong, we can share with Kat lol
-
Okay back to the essentials! Are we bringing armor and weapons for a display or nay? I'll be wearing my Talhoffer and rondel dagger for the escort into the hall. I'll have a change of surcoat, my bascinet, wooden rondel and waster for the harnischfechten. Should I bring a marshal of the list pole for either Sir James/Sir Wolf to referee? Are we bothering with shields for display or just wearing? All of your harnesses are 15th so am I the only 14th century? ???
-

I'll be wearing an albion as well, and the nicer surcoat.
For fighting, I'll also have to switch out surcoat, add the windrose helm & the standard, etc. Will wear a shield, but I'm not bringing additional ones.
I'll bring a couple of maces and helms to display (the usual pieces), and my glaive, and that's about it.
No, I'm in 14th as well. I can't move well in my 15th. You won't see me using that kit again any time soon, now that my 14th works.
-
I've got my arming clothes, shoes, harness, sword, garter, and for show and tell: a buckler, a spaulder, pair of gauntlets, and a vambrace.
Getting directions and heading out shortly.
-
had a great night seeing you guys!
sorry it wasn't really what we thought it was lol. we may still get a donation for the make a wish foundation for it! so thats always a plus. mom took your tickets and wrote your names on them and i told her that if any of us won to put them in our make a wish foundation pot as well.
man, my feet are super bruised on top lol. i have 2 serious lines hahahaha.

All in all it wasn't a bad event. The best part was getting to hang out with you guys which is always a lot of fun. BTW stay turned on FB for some revealing photo's of Sir Wolf...I turned the pictures over to my wife Sir Wolf and you are now at her mercy!
(May God have mercy on your soul!) ;D

The party you are attempting to reach is unavailable. Please try again next week. ;)

k thanks.

Sorry, I've been in Colorado all week.
You can donate it to Make-a-wish directly, or I can do it. Either way is cool.
