Title: A new toy for harnischfechten!
Post by: Sir Brian on 2015-01-27, 22:13:17
Here is a new dagger I plan on purchasing in the very near future to use in harnischfechten. ;D

I purchased the fencing mask punch tester today and will put my perforated steel I had welded over my helm's oculars to the test. ;)

We should test it also on James' nose just to be sure

That's the standard test for any new kit I believe, so this should be no exception.

As soon as I get my sides stitched, I will... they split from laughing so hard ;)

It would be good to damage it a little more before its fully healed. As to be respectful.

Cool, I look forward to seeing it... and taking it, and stabbing you with it. And I mean that in the nicest way possible. ;)

Non-sense. James: Bring the Reeses with you so Brian's new toy can slice it up for the rest of us to have. Then we will test the durability of the nose. :)

Sir Brian, did I mention that my nickname at HEMA class is harnishfechten?

Therefore, going by the title of this thread, you bought me a new toy........

Much better than my nickname. In Civil War reenacting I earned the appellation of "Pickles" at my first event. I'll meet people I've never met before who'll say "Oh you're Pickles. I've heard about you." Very few people in that hobby actually know my name.

Should I be so lucky as to get a nickname. Well my airsoft team calls me skippy

“Rodney” was a nickname I picked up in junior high and carried through college.  There was more than one classmate our senior year who pointed out that the yearbook staff inserted the wrong name under my photo.  Of course, they hadn’t!   :)

Naturally I chose it as my SCA name.  Other than the SCA locals, everyone in the upper Midwest simply knows me as Rodney (as well as a few other names that are less than appropriate for this forum).   ;)

Nice dagger BTW.  We need some video of stabby stab!

I didn't get it yet. I asked my wife to gift it to me as a Valentine's day gift. At TherionArms it's $45.

It was the tester I referred to in this post in another discussion about using steel for harnischfechten. ;)

Not as yet. I need to locate a fencing school that has a tester on the premises and ask them to test it for me. Although I suppose I should just go ahead and
purchase this: http://shop.fencing.net/Mask_Punch_Test_p/fwf93101.htm (http://shop.fencing.net/Mask_Punch_Test_p/fwf93101.htm), so I can test everyone's modified visor after I get the perforated steel welded onto them. :-\
I did slightly peen the perforated steel into the oculars afterwards though that should add little more resistance to a thrust from the opposing direction.
