Sad state of affairs made worse in Syria due to war. Historically significant crusader castle Krak de Chevallier damaged by attacks. :( Hate this news.

I actually welled up a bit when I read that. I sure hope they make repairs. As said in Monument Men By Lt. Frank Stokes, "You can wipe out an entire generation, you can burn their homes to the ground, and somehow they’ll still find their way back. But if you destroy their history, you destroy their achievements, then it’s as if they never existed."

It makes me really, really mad. This is an amazing castle, one that withstood sieges, and was very well preserved into the modern day. It's full strength was never completely tested back in the day, but it was estimated that it could withstand a 5-year siege when it was at its best.

I have an article scheduled to show up on the FB page about it today too.

I can't imagine they care that much about a fortification that is largely remembered as a Christian-held fortress.  This is saddening; I would have liked to have visited it someday.

We should Call the Teutonic knights to go secure these places, They are still a military order after all.
