I figured I'd set up a thread for us to post humorous spoofs and the like. Here are some of the ones we've posted previously elsewhere on the forum, to get it started:
Argent, three ghouls gules
(http://modernchivalry.org/pictures/argent-3-ghouls-gules2.gif)
And of course, Sir Brian and I having a spur fight:

Man, I can't find the Medieval Headshot one...it was simple, looks like the one posted by Sir Edward and it said:
Boom! I have shot thine head!

It was in a thread on myArmoury, and it looks like the thread got deleted because it was getting offensive to some. There's a "mobile" copy of the thread that still turns up in google, so I found what you were looking for. :) (here (http://www.myarmoury.com/mobile/thread.html?topic_id=14888&&start=0))

And of course some Monty Python stuff:

Man, that was awesome- exactly what I was referring to, couldn't find the damn thing. Kudos, Sir Edward- your google skills are top notch!
On that third tapestry, I actually saw a 'ringmail' coat on eBay that looked a lot like the one guy second from the left in that picture. When I got a closer look at that ringmail coat, I realized it was sack material with grommets sewn in all over.
Its going for $150 too...I consider it the longbowman's pin cushion. It'd be a great way to hone one's skill in the bow, that's for sure. lol

I showed this to my wife who immediately wanted to commission it for our cat, Niko...but I don't think he'd ever let me put it on him! lol
(http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv64/ebonpaladin/Armor/NikoArmorbyJeffDeBoer.jpg)
-
Yeah, I love that guy's cat armor. It's a shame he only made them as art items and doesn't take commissions. :)
-
Can you think of a cat that would sit still and allow all that crap put on it? Mine won't even wear a collar! But dogs, on the other hand...dogs might be amenable if you got'm started early.
Since I don't have sons or a reliable squire, I may have to go this route and get a dog. Although, he wouldn't be much help getting ME armored up! lol

White Blaze's alter Ego Black Blaze wore armor. He was a mighty tiger. Roar!

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! I'd forgotten that it was the director's wife who played Igrayne. She was good lookin! Didn't they call it the 'Boorman Family Project'?
Wonder what that was like for him, seeing his wife get stripped and ravished for the entire cast and crew to ogle! And she didn't complain not one bit about that cold, heavy armor on her milky-white skin! Ravished by two dudes as it were! lol
-
Actually, according to wikipedia, it's his daughter. I'll google around some more. Might have to edit the poster. :)
-
OK, image text updated. IMDB confirmed it. It's his daughter. :)
-
That's WORSE!!! To watch your flesh and blood go through that for the sake of cinema! Mind you, I was never one to share when it comes to my most important things so I wouldn't have had my wife out there like that, but your kid?
HELL NAH.
-
I don't have online images, but I have a newspaper clipping that has a knight in full plate harness in front of the castle, with a metal detector on the drawbridge, and a guy saying "Put all your metal items in the dish".
Gets me every time. :D
-
i always loved the sca guy's shield made from an alum street sign. he put the wording facing towards him. it said "children at play" hehehe
-

What would be funny is if someone did that with a sign facing outwards, and the sign was "YIELD". :)

HAH
-
Bill Tsafa mentioned that the aluminum used in street signs was ideal for shieldmaking! lol

TERROR THREATS IN 2011 EUROPE: BY JOHN CLEESE
The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved."
Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross."
The English have not been at "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out.
Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.
The Scots have raised their threat level from "Pissed Off" to "Let's get the Bastards." They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.
The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Collaborate" and"Surrender." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability.
Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly & Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."
The Germans have increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform & Sing Marching Songs." They also have two higher levels:"Invade a Neighbor" and "Lose."
Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.
The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.
Australia , meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No worries" to "She'll be alright, Mate." Two more escalation levels remain: "Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!" and "The barbie is canceled." So far no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation level.

:D :D 8)
Sir Brian, may I share that?
-
Most certainly! :)
-
I thought the original line was the Polish navy had glass bottomed boats! Love the French one. LOL
-
Well you must remember that it is supposedly written by John Cleese with a British perspective as is evident by the poignant lack in making any mention of Americans. ;)
-
Nor should they, unless they would like to take a trip down memory lane and get a refresher! I don't figure us to remain on top forever, but it'd be nice if it remained so for the foreseeable future.

A Grazing Mace
A grazing mace, how sweet the sound, that felled my foe for me
I bashed his head, he struck the ground, and thus came victory
My mace has taught my foes to fear, that mace my fear relieved
How precious did my mace appear, when I my mace received
Through many tourneys, wars, and fairs, I have already come
My mace has brought me safe thus far, my mace will bring me home
The King has promised good to me, his word my hope secures
I will his shield and weapon be, when he gives me my spurs
And when my mace my foeman nails, that mortal strife shall cease
And we'll possess within our pale, a life of joy and peace
A grazing mace, how sweet the sound that flattened a wretch like thee!
Whose head is flat, that once was round; done in by my mace....and me!
A grazing mace, how sweet the sound that smites a foe like thee

You're left there lying on the ground, you've left the field to me!
OK, now that is awesome. :)

Maces make people happy.
Look how happy that man's mace has made him. :D

Oh, that is GREAT!!!! I lol'd for real at the ending!
-
heheh not gonna get my armour wet
-
Yeah, the rain would be a problem. I think what would be better would be to add a light snowfall in post-production.
-
Yes, in post production. lol
At least we don't HAVE to get our armor wet- our knightly forefathers had no such luxury. Unless they paid the scutage. lol
-
heheh not gonna get my armour wet
Perhaps having them jousting in the rain was part of the point of winning the lottery and being so rich you had all the
underlings you needed to polish your armor for you! ;)
-
That commercial is epic. I didn't see that ending coming! Perhaps that armor is stainless steel? Or titanium? Mithril? If you win the lottery, it gives a whole world of possibility. :D
Armor made from old carpet and duct tape doesn't smell very pleasant after exposure to sweat and rain, either - speaking from childhood experience. :)
-
At first I cringed as they were getting armoured in the rain, then I LMAO during the final scene. :)
This commercial reminded me of a myArmoury post by Bram van Diemen showing armoured guys on those scooters! Check out Sir Edwards myArmoury thread Show Us Your Kits and Harnesses! My vote is for Duct Tape Reliquary and Vikings. :)

And now for Certainty, and Violence!

I think I like the Roman heavy gunners, the Viking and the Frazetta/Violence ones the best.

The Brave Squire.
One year at Pennsic three Knights, one from the Kingdom of the East, one from the Kingdom of the Middle, and one from the Kingdom of the West, were sitting around bullsh***ing Philosophizing and up came the subject of whose squire was "bravest".
The Knight of the East said "Tis True! Mine is the bravest squire of all!" "Oh yeah?",said the other two, "Prove it!" "OK... Squire!" "Yes Sir!" "Squire... do you see the King of the Middle all surrounded by his bodyguard?" "Yes Sir." "Well.. Go get him!" "Yes Sir!"
And the Squire put on his kit ran off to attack the King and was promptly thrubbed soundly by said Kings bodyguard. He crawled back to his lord and said "My Lord I have tried to do as you command but the Middle Kings bodyguard was too much for me and I failed" "That's OK Squire. Good try. Now go get some water, and rest up"
The Knight of the Middle said "That's nothing. Mine is surely the bravest squire of all. Watch this... Squire!" "Yes Sir!" "Squire... do you see the King of the West all surrounded by his huskarls who are then surrounded by the Western Army?" "Yes Sir?" "Well.. Go get him!" "Yes Sir!"
And the Squire put on his kit ran off to attack the King and was promptly thrubbed soundly by said King as his Army and then the huskarls parted so as not to deny their King the pleasure of whomping this lunatic. The Squire stumbled back to his lord and said "My Lord I have tried to do as you command but the Western King was too much for me and I failed" "That's OK Squire. You did well. Go take a break."
The Knight of the West said "Y'all ain't seen nothing yet. I'll show YOU a brave Squire. Watch this... squire....Squire!....SQUIRE!!!!!" "WHAT?! What do you want now?!" "Squire... fetch me a beer." "What the..? Who broke your legs? Get your own damn beer!"
And with that the Western Knight stood up, strapped on his sword, put on his helm, picked up his shield and turned and said "Now you see that? That is a Brave Squire!".
-
That got a chuckle from me. I was waiting for the squire to catch a clout on the ears, maybe two for insouciance. lol

Wow, talk about classic...love that clip! Even back then when I first saw this occur on tv, I wondered what the hell was he doin anyway? Sword-like-objects...you gotta love'm. ;)
Still, for me, one of the funniest ones is where the guy is demo'ing how a certain ladder works wonders and he falls off of it while the caller who called in about how good this ladder was remarks: "....and that has NEVER happened!" LOL

Oh, I'm sure it is a good ladder...he just wasn't paying enough attention to what he was doing. It was like a bad dream...you see him lose footing, his foot getting hooked and it was all downhill from there. lol

Ack! And the Tosh.0 skit with the Cold Steel sword wasn't posted either. :)

I saw that ep recently...my brother turned me onto this guy. He's actually funny and I was surprised because he looks like such a doofus, I just assumed he was one. Earlier the same year. I think a couple of months earlier. I want to say April, but I remember it being cold.
When I was out there with the white surcoat, it was more like June, and hot out there.

Wow, that lightning effect looks great.
-
Super easy to do too, with that tutorial's method. I never would have thought of that. It's a clever method!

Whoa, that lightning bolt just gave me an idea. Next time we all get together, we'll have to do some poses...I'm thinking a lightning strike hitting the tip of an upraised sword ala Clash of the Titans (2011)!

As many of you know I was raised a Jew and think of myself as a Jew.... who has not shared a great Jewish Medieval joke. Here it is:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One Pope, in the Dark Ages, decreed that all Jews had to leave Rome. The Jews did not want to leave, and so the Pope challenged them to a disputation to prove that they could remain. No one, however, wanted the responsibility... until the synagogue janitor, Moishe, volunteered.
As there was nobody else who wanted to go, Moishe was given the task. But because he knew only Hebrew, a silent debate was agreed. The day of the debate came, and they went to St. Peter's Square to sort out the decision. First the Pope waved his hand around his head. Moishe pointed firmly at the ground.
The Pope, in some surprise, held up three fingers. In response, Moishe gave him the middle finger.
The crowd started to complain, but the Pope thoughtfully waved them to be quiet. He took out a bottle of wine and a wafer, holding them up. Moishe took out an apple, and held it up.
The Pope, to the people’s surprise, said, "I concede. This man is too good. The Jews can stay."
Later, the Pope was asked what the debate had meant. He explained, "First, I showed him the Heavens, to show that God is everywhere. He pointed at the ground to signify that God is right here with us. I showed him three fingers, for the Trinity. He reminded me that there is One God common to both our religions. I showed him wine and a wafer, for God's forgiveness. With an apple, he showed me original sin. The man was a master of silent debate."
In the Jewish corner, Moishe had the same question put to him, and answered, "It was all nonsense, really. First, he told me that this whole town would be free of Jews. I told him, Go to Hell! We’re staying right here! Then, he told me we had three days to get out. I told him just what I thought of that proposal." An older woman asked, "But what about the part at the end?" "That?" said Moishe with a shrug, "Well, I saw him take out his lunch, so I took out mine."
-

Amazon.com listing for generic gothic upper legs / knees (no greaves):

Do not believe the hype from the 2nd rate publications "Knight Times" and "Mi Armour." This product is terrible. When I purchase armour that is advertised as "full leg" I expect it to be just that. However, in my recent battle defending my country of Tillamoore in the region of Glog in last weekends Battle and BBQ at Taft Park I was taken out within the first minutes of battle from a well aimed foam arrow to my knee. I was the laughing stock of the festival. Even though this is some of the most comfortable leg armour I own, I will banish to the attic for its lack of protection. The detailing is amateur at best and it is a bit on the noisy side. So, beware, this will not protect you from arrows, darts, rocks, bullys, uncles or swords. If I could, I'd dig a moat around this product.

Yep, but if you watch it in slow-motion, the pommel slid off and the rest just flew. The sword itself didn't break anywhere that I could see, it looked like it just got looser and looser from abuse and then finally rattled off. I can't find the vid on youtube.

Hey, I don't knock LARPers, as the sign says, at least they're outside! I heard its fun...have perused some of the Dagorhir boards, they really get into it. I still have this idea of doing a D'Haran special forces character/Ranger- replete with anachronistic leather armor. :)

My Friend Amo was one of the first members of Darken and has in recent years developed an offshoot group called dragonclaw. He's invited me to numerous events but they hold them on Saturdays and I typically have to work on Saturdays but I would love to try it! :)

Strangely enough I'm also a Reverend in the ULC (ULC.org), but I think that's a Reno tradition, and a Dudist (http://dudeism.com/) Priest because I thought they were joking.
I've even performed weddings too.
-
Looks like just about anyone can get ordained by ULC, provided they take the online course, right? You do not see that as a conflict of interest considering you are an avowed atheist as well?
By the way, I thought The Big Lebowski was the perfect homage to the old weed flicks of the 70s like the Cheech & Chong series of movies...but was also a black comedy, which I was not prepared for.
-
I was 18. I did it as a lark. No course needed. I did it in under 5 minutes. I used it to push back at a stupid NV law requiring one to see a Revered/Priest/Rabbi/Imam to have a legal wedding. Most of the quickie marriage places in Reno or Vegas are run by ULC Ministers.
But I am an atheist. :)

Lindybeige on Youtube has some fun stuff on weapons and whatnot but here is a vid I love.
--------------
A point about weapons in fantasy worlds.
The anecdote about the turtle does make the scenario seem a bit dull - with the PCs turned into mere spectators, but it wasn't as bad as it might sound. The players just heard a quick description of the army's methods, and were of course free to try to intervene (they didn't, much), and most of the scenario dealt with other things.

Dude there looks 3 sizes too small for that. Is it all from the same harness?
-
The result of a good harness gone awry?

Yeah, same harness, all being sold as a set on eBay by a seller with similar other offerings (whole harnesses). The legs seemed to be sized about right for him, which makes the discrepancy of arms .... interesting.

The show's pretty good- they get the gritty portrayal of the books down pat for the most part, but the books...the books are EPIC in scope and realization. Think LOTR, but much more realistic in characterization...magic seems much more organic in aspect as well. Oh, and sex, lots of sex....its very sexy in fact. lol

I have that last one lined up to share on the Order FB page. I wish Sir Ortega didn't watermark everything he posts, no matter whose image it is. A lot of the time, I'm seeking out the original to share.
-
I can remove that watermark if you want :)
*poof*

lol thanks, but not necessary since I've been using Google's image search to find the originals, and often at higher resolution. :)

Do not mess with the God of Spite.
For all the folks I know who play AD&D/PFRPG/Etc (and that's a lot of you). I give a story told to me by my friend TC that he heard from elsewhere's. Feel free to share:
------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the groups I DM'ed for during my undergrad years had a player we'll call "Tony" (not his real name). Tony was a lying scuzzball who fancied himself a ladies' man and played his characters much the same way. This would have been fine had he restricted his lies and petty larceny to the game world, but alas, he owed money to most of the group and small objects tended to go missing around him. He was also an unreliable gamer who (when he showed up at all) would frequently play in an altered state of consciousness. The rest of the group had pretty much decided this guy had to go... and luckily, he gave me the perfect opportunity.A bit of background: Tony's character had recently used his cheesed-out Bluff and Diplomacy checks to seduce a sweet, naive princess into falling head-over-heels in love with him and eventually marrying him. Being Tony, he exploited his newfound royal connections as far as they'd go, and made it clear that his character only cared about her for the wealth and power. He even gifted her another PC's stolen ancestral amulet to show her family how wealthy he was.
Anyway, after doing a bit of adventuring, the group discovered that the villains responsible for a recent string of grisly murders were a cult dedicated to Cas, God of Spite (Heroes of Horror). After delivering pointy justice to said cult, they were looting the underground temple when Tony had one of his characteristically idiotic ideas:
Tony: "I'm going to take a dump on the altar."
Me: "You realize what you're saying, right? You plan to defecate on the sacred altar of the God of Spite?"
Tony: "Yeah, why not?"
So he desecrates the altar. At the end of the next session, the heroes are riding off towards their next adventure:
Me: "Everyone, it's Spot check time. You might also want to try a Listen check, but the DC is a lot higher."
Group: *rolls terribly*
Me: "Nobody notices the winged shape overhead... at least not until [Tony's character] and his horse are replaced with a mound of steaming dung."
Tony: "I don't get a Reflex save?"
Me: "Nobody in the party put points into Spot. You all have crappy Wisdom. You rolled a 2. You didn't even see the shadow until it was too late. So yeah, a dragon just shat on you from from six hundred feet."
Tony: *frowns* "How much damage then, *******?"
Me: "Well, it weighs several hundred pounds and fell from a great height... " *rolls* "45."
Tony: "I died from dragon sh**?!"
While Tony sat there, red-faced and fuming, I calmly continued. The rest of the group attempted to dig his dead character and horse out from under the pile when one of them came across something familiar:
Me: "Alerika, you notice a glint of gold as you dig through the feces. Excavating a little more, your heart skips a beat as you realize it's your ancestral amulet!"
Tony: "THAT WAS MY WIFE?!"
Me: "Some of it was, yeah. Don't f**k with the God of Spite."
Uttering a primal shriek of rage, Tony flipped the table over and stormed out of the room, never to return. The group held it together for about five seconds before bursting into gales of laughter. To this day they say it was the best game I ever ran....yeah, I felt a little bad about that in retrospect, but the guy had it coming. If you steal my friend's phone and have the audacity to keep showing up at my gaming table, I will have a dragon fatally poop your wife onto your head, and will earn the nickname Assistant God of Spite.

Swords are so bad! One time I found a sword in a rock and I pulled so hard that when it came outit hit my me dead on the head. It nearlly gave me a concussion it did. So I stuck it back into the rock.

Too much wrong imagery has filled my head now. Oiling sword. I'm too busy getting my mail on right now. Why isn't this sharpening. I wish I has a bigger sword. Might want to loosen that leather a little. Crap it's too small, crap it's too big.
I could go worse but I don't think I've crossed the line. Armor jokes an problems with armor jokes are tedious.

Should there be beard pics, like the knights have everything but pants on and there privies are being covered by a beard?
Maybe that's too extreme.

I call the peasants "piece-ants" after im through with them.
The proper term "peasant" comes from the arrogant French feudal system "puessant" loosely meaning "Lower class person, or one who serves or is endentured to a noble." Derived from this is a word we all know in English ..... "Pee-on". :) LOL

Well it's a meme. But it is pretty awesome.

Not if it were the rennasciance transition.
Back in my day we used bows instead of this fancy hand cannons to kill peach other!!!!!
The pistol was invented in 1512 by an unknown inventor. We all know gunpowder had existed in combat pre 1512.

Quick question Sir Aiden: Is your signature in Latin, or something else?
-
Latin, idk if the format is correct because it is google translate.
-
I was gonna say...
It literally reads : By the friend, and each other obstacle and by the world heart, it conquers.
If you would like, here's a more accurate translation:
Amici, et virtus, et cor purus omnes impedimenta vincent.
(I took Latin for 6 years)
-
Hey thanks! I had no idea haha. I try hard not to use translate. Wow I really appreciate it! If you ever have german question come to me. I know who im coming to when I put in latin "my sword my shield" "my shield my sword" on my sword and shield lol. Well, i am going to change it immediately. Thanks again.
(German for 4 years)
-
"Meus gladius, meus scutum" "Meus scutum, meus gladius"
-
Awesome! Many thanks. ;D
-
Latin and German: the two languages I wish I understood more than I do. I can pick out a handful of words and phrases, but nothing useful. I think I'd have a hard time learning another language if it wasn't something I used often.
-
Luckily German shares in many things in common with English. I eventually wish to learn Latin and French, and get to learn more English terms. I don't care about Italian lol.

I took Latin for 2 years. Pig Latin for a day, and switched to German.
The Latin just didn't click for me German does.

Exactly
-
Quid nomen es tibi?
Mihi nomen es Marcus et Cornelia est amicus
It's sad this is a majority of what I remember. Still I can recognize Latin in words.

Exactly
I don't know when it was invented/formalized but Italian definitely existed in the medieval period. There are Italian terms for plate armor pieces and I've seen reference to books about armor written in Italian during medieval times.
-
Dante's Divine Comedy was written in a Tuscan dialect that served as the foundation of modern italian. That was written in the early 14th century.

Oh neat, and right around the time of plate armor, which is all I knew it from. Didn't know when or how it started. Fun fact, thanks. :)

Italian didn't exist in the Middle Ages
Exactly
Of course it did; do you think the people in that region did not speak at all? ;)
It wasn't referred to as 'Italian' because there was no 'Italy' as we know it now; they were 'city-states' such as Genoa, Pisa, Venezia, etc- but they all spoke the same language with varying dialects depending on which one they hailed from.

You know... Now that you mention it I feel a little dumb haha. I usually just thought there was only Latin. But that I think about it, it obviously must have existed for it to have exist now. Still, I don't feel like learning Italian haha. Maybe just how to pronounce it so I sound intelligent when ordering my food at Olive Garden ;)
-
Italian is a very difficult language. In order to properly speak it, you also have to learn how to talk with your hands. ;) Of course, the more Italian you are, the more instinctive it is.

That will be on the news.

Then theres just going to be one stupid reporter that says
"Someone got off the mayflower in the wrong spot"
-
I was sorting through some pictures for something else and found some short videos I realized I never uploaded. So I posted them now. :)

That was art James. Pure art
-
Were you planning on dubbing in the vacuum cleaner noise later? I have the exact same vacuum cleaner and I know it makes a ton of noise! ;)
-
That's a lot of background sound anyway. If we wanted to edit these into a longer video later, we'd re-do the audio for sure, or just silence it and put music over it or something.
Awesome. :)

Yep, I just put up a quick one for now. Possibly meme it up a bit and also splice the 3 clips together, and maybe add a few more when I get a chance. Vids were done 6 months ago but I forgot about them.

I've read them all a number of times...even so, I still come across stuff I don't remember. Great anthology/mythology, but very gritty, very base- unlike any fantasy I'd read prior to that.

I always thought it would be funny to have those country-code stickers, like the ones people put on cars and the like. But they're a lot harder to take off, so using them for one day wouldn't be worth the effort. The magnets are nicer for that. :)

I wasn't sure if I should post it, but I figured I would, just for the halibut....
Little know fact about Wachsmut von Künzingen: he was awarded the right to bear those arms after he miraculously managed to cut down the largest tree in the forest using only a herring. ;)

http://www.clickhole.com/article/people-are-finding-suits-armor-washed-beach-heres--381 (http://www.clickhole.com/article/people-are-finding-suits-armor-washed-beach-heres--381)
It’s happening all over the country. People are finding suits of armor washed up onto beaches, loading them into their cars, and taking them home. These innocent beachgoers think that they’re getting a free suit of armor. It seems almost too good to be true. And it is.
When these people wake up the next day, they discover that the suits of armor are gone—and so are their valuables. It’s a scam called “knighting,” and it’s the latest crime spree taking the nation by storm.
Nobody knows for sure where these suits of armor are coming from. The waves wash them onto the sand at irregular intervals, and their widespread location suggests that there is no central crime organization involved. Nobody has even actually seen these suits of armor move. The innocent beachgoers who find them are simply bringing them home, going to sleep, and waking up to find that their door is open, the suit of armor is gone, and that they’ve been robbed blind.
“I didn’t check to see if anyone was inside the suit of armor,” says Mitchell Kleinman of Miami, a victim of a devastating knighting last month. “It seemed heavy, I suppose, but I didn’t think twice about checking inside. Then I brought it home, and the next morning the suit of armor had vanished, and my laptop, iPad, and television were all gone.”
Kleinman is not alone. Over the past four months, there have been more than 15,000 reported cases of knighting. While none of the suits of armor involved have ever been apprehended or even been seen again after vanishing from victims’ homes, authorities can only presume that people hiding inside these suits of armor are responsible for the crimes.
Various police forces across the country have requested that individuals with any information regarding these criminal suits of armor bring it to their attention immediately. In the meantime, Kleinman asks people who come across a suit of armor on the beach to think twice before taking it home.
“I’m trying to tell everyone I know: If you see a suit of armor on a beach, just leave it where you found it and call the police,” Kleinman said. “These things just aren’t worth it.”

Saw something very similar to that on an episode of Bones; basically the thief hid in a vintage suit of samurai armor in a vault, replete with hydration kit and urine bag and waited til everyone left and lifted all the cash that was supposedly in the vault. Turned out to be even more mysterious but I figured they'd gotten the idea from something that had actually happened.
What gets me is no one bothered to check to see how the armor was 'assembled'? I would've been pulling pieces to find the substructure, thereby finding the human inside it. Then I'd drag him back to sea and hold him under the water til he stopped moving, and then take the harness home. Idiots. lol

There's a movie called Tactical Force (with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin) where 4 SWAT team agents are trapped inside a building, unarmed, with terrorists covering all their exits. Some dialog ensues, and someone says "they have us surrounded" and Austin says "well that's bad news for them". :)

The study of historical Ringen (the German word for “wrestling”) has opened doors to the modern practice of HEMA. The techniques found in the sources range from sport wrestling to vicious strikes against joints and weak points on the opponent. OK, https embedding should work now. I tried to find an updated version of the media-embedding mod I was using, and it looks like it's disappeared from the SMF mod site, so I'm trying out a different one that appears more well maintained.

The Raising of the Chicken Banner by EthicallyChallenged
Many aspects of medieval nobility's life were governed by ceremony and had to strictly adhere to protocol. Everything from going through doors to eating meals had to be performed exactly as the proper form instructed. These formal restrictions applied even to childish behaviours, such as pre-combat name calling, known today as fronting.
Depicted left is the Chicken Leg Banner Bearer who, when instructed by the leader wishing to initiate the name calling phase, would rise the banner depicting a chicken leg to show it to the opposing faction's leader. The message of the banner was effectively calling the courage of the offended party into question. This was a signal for the army behind the banner to begin chanting "buck-buck" noises. It was then customary to wait for either a reply or an attack. Remnants of the Chicken Leg Banner protocol remain in Anglo-Saxon culture to this day.

I found this digging through files from a stack of CDs I burned back in 1998 & 1999:
A duke is hunting in a forest with his men-at-arms and servants when he comes upon a tree. Archery targets are painted all over it, and smack in the middle of each is an arrow.
"Who is this incredibly fine archer?" cries the duke. "I must find him."
After continuing through the forest for a few miles, he comes across a small boy carrying a bow and arrow. Eventually the boy admits that it was he who shot the arrows plumb in the center of all the targets.
"You didn't just walk up to the targets and hammer the arrows into the middle, did you?" asks the duke worriedly.
"No my lord. I shot them from 100 paces. I swear it by all that I hold holy."
"That is truly astonishing," says the duke. "I hereby admit you into my service. But I must ask one favor in return. You must tell me how you came to be such an outstanding shot."
"Well," said the boy, "first I fire the arrow at the tree, and then I paint the target around it."

At HEMA class a couple weeks ago, I took my poleaxe so my instructor could borrow it for paired forms at a tournament last weekend. I think it's the first time I ever took it to class. During a break, Student A sees poleaxe leaning against the wall by my gear bag ...
Student A asks me "Is that your poleaxe?"
Student B randomly blurts out "Nope, I'm just happy to see you!"
Mid-drink choking from laughter ensued.
Later in class, it's time for masks & gloves partner drills, and Student A asks me "Do I need my heavily padded gloves? How excited are you about this?"
I replied "Well, you can see my poleaxe, so..."
