My cousin and I just finished watching Rome, all 22 episodes. What a spectacular show on a grand scale...they strove for authenticity in everything, and it showed.
KoH: Director's Cut is much better than the version they play on cable tv...makes much more sense and flows better.
13th Warrior: great movie in my book, same with Knight's Tale...they're just good swashbuckling style movies.
Might I also recommend, pre-medieval:
Spartacus: Blood and Sand
Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (prequel)
If you liked the movie 300, you're gonna love this show. The kill shots are freakin AWESOME, and the fighting is suitably visceral.
Downloading a knights tale at the moment, i think my brother has kingdom of heaven, ill check though
hehe that was one of those fun movies. the actors all worked well together. there was nothing period about the movie at all hehhehe
Doesn't pay to piss off the gf lol
Well if you get a chance to see an old classic check out “The War Lord” with Charlton Heston. He plays a Norman knight sent by his duke (for some reason I suspect William I, duke of Normandy ;) ) to a remote keep that gets raided frequently by Frisians.

el sid is ok i fell asleep a few times
Still cannot recommend Rome enough the story arc of Pullo & Vorenus is just great.
Plus the death of Cicero is a great take on the subject of state ordered assassination:

Get the US DVD version and it will; you will of course have to turn it on, though.
I figured as much...Hollywood will always get its way, no? The changes made (I have read the synopsis of the movie a few times so I know what to expect) don't take away from the novel imho, but I will reserve commentary until after I've viewed it. Kinda excited, I am.
This Robin Hood, if you can find it, is the best one.

That one is "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves"

Prince of Thieves was the Kevin Costner one.
Obviously you must undertake a Quest to rectify this error. I foresee a need for popcorn, soda, and pizza as the necessary tools for this journey. :)
I guess none of the members are interested in that idea of making a movie?
I understand the problem involved with everyone scattered, however a screenplay can be written with the minimum of participants. As I stated, I am already working on a screenplay that doesn't require a lot of people...plus if the movie is not long, it shouldn't take much to make it.
I will keep everyone informed as I get further on the screenplay. At first I was going to do it on Sir Wm Marshal, but I thought so much has been done on him and I could never do him justice....so I have another idea which I really loke. More on this later.

I think most of us like the idea Sir John, the problem would be that it would take time and means to get all of us on one or several locations, do the filming and that can take even more time, it would create a conflict of different schedules. But I like the idea and why not do a Promo video of all of us together as Knights of the Order o the Marshall? Why not do a couple of movies where we go on Quests, adventures of our own designs?
Time, distance and any acting ability are 3 things I would not have enough of. A shorter promo video, rather than full length film, would be more likely - but not likely for me this year.
Personally, I'm a terrible actor... unless it comes to creature effects. I do a mean Grim Reaper for Halloween. :)
I think I'm a world-class actor...I have all of you believing that I'm an honorable knight, worthy of being numbered amongst such puissant knights!
I think fleshing out the details on how long it would be, how much time we'd need to film, how many people we'd need, any specific backgrounds / sets, would be good to hash out. A full length film would be far too involved for me, but if we're doing a 5-10 minute short film, like the one with the river battle that was posted recently, that could be fun.
Well, if we film only with those near a central point...that would be good. Like I said, with a minimum of actors that could be accomplished. Then the actual filming...maybe one or two separate days...not all on each day. I have experience making movies...I've made 8 of them. Whenever I have made movies, the actors always ham it up and ad lib...makes it fun...and interesting...like adding spice to a dish.
I don't know if any of you have heard of the old western: "Have gun will travel?" I grew up with it, and it seems it still is very popular today. I managed to get DVDs of all 6 seasons. And I still like them.
Paladin would be my choice as the main star...I'd call him Sir Palidor, which it seems was in use back then and derived from Charlegmagne's Paladins. The qualities of the western Paladin really seem like a real knight, that's why I'd like to base it on his character, only back in the middle ages.
I'm choosing Scotland for his home place...actually the western Paladin lived at the Carelton Hotel in San Fransico, and there is also one in Edinburgh.
Being from Felsenbau (german for Roxborough...and Roxborough getting it's name from one of the early settlers who came from Roxburgh, Scotland, naming his estate "Roxburgh" and the city taking that name but changed it to Roxsborough, which is also another spelling in Scotland for the site.)
Think that's all I'll post for now.
Sir John
PLus, if there were knights fighting knights in the movie, we'd need a large cast. But in the "Have Gun Will Travel" one episode was the monster of Cream Ridge....so a monster would really cut down on the cast. I have quite a few twists in the screenplay I'm working on.

Unless you focused on one-on-one duels, then you wouldn't need as many.
I'm working on dialogue and shields/surcoats right now. The bad knight (ficticious name and coat of arms) will know that in Sawlyer's Cave (really exists above Roxburgh) is part of the Templar's treasure and wants the Ogre killed so he can get the treasure for himself. As it turns out, the Ogre is really the good knight's father who led his group of knights to attack England in 1360, just when England was hit with the plague,. It was those knights (really) who brought the plague to Scotland. There also was a Roxburgh Manor, and I found out the Lord's coat of arms, which also will be used in the movie, since the Manor House was the only large mansion in Roxburgh. (By the way, archeologists and historians say that the cave mentioned led to Sawyler's Mansion as an escape route, since the area was on the border between England and Scotland and was always having battles there.) The Ogre and the good knight (his son) rejoice at finding each other and the treasure is used to help rebuild the town from all the battles. And they live happily ever after!

I like the 'Game of Thrones" series if you haven't seen it.
The Lion in Winter ?
Another film that really sets a great 14th century atmosphere is The Name of the Rose, with Sean Connery.
Pillars Of The Earth & World Without End.
Hey gents.
One of my absolute favorite Medieval movies is Ridley Scott's "Robin Hood". Forget the Kevin Costner version, its kinda classic but just feels outdated (no pun). "Kingdom of Heaven" is AMAZING!! Alas, I only have the theatrical version but I'm getting the DC soon. I have both seasons of "Rome", haven't watched them yet.... Also, BRAVEHEART!! And I,ll admit a guilty pleasure...."Game of Thrones"....and "Robin Hood: Men in tights" of course.
I imagine the set would've had to be built a good deal bigger to incorporate a town; still in all, I liked this movie.
Really? Huh. Then I'll chalk it up to ignorance/pure laziness on their part, which is somewhat disappointing. Still like the movie, though. Loved the portrayal of the Templars as the ass kicking name taking fighters I've read about.
