Yeh, Ben gave me a head's up, and asked if I was OK with having a picture of me on there.

This could get very interesting! I'm glad Jess is running it. She won't let it get out of hand.

Excellent. I figured they'd go to the photographer first. They're pretty good about that. :)

Yeah in two days time they already sold out of the forty discount registrations! With a pool limit of only 84 for the Open Steel I'm going to have to bite the bullet on this one and lock in my spot. Not real happy they didn't wait until AFTER the holidays to open the registration!  :(

Seriously. I haven't really had time to look at it yet, but it sound like getting in early is a good thing.

I haven't told my wife this but one of the reasons I'm hoping she gets a job on the east coast in the next year or two is to go to this event.

Well I registered today for the open steel longsword tournament. I tried to register for the Sword & Buckler but it was already filled.
After following this link:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JjPmlk_rgxCFcJxvkM15DuHg0qvWYQnxNdvrsBNlrZ4/edit#gid=0 (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JjPmlk_rgxCFcJxvkM15DuHg0qvWYQnxNdvrsBNlrZ4/edit#gid=0)

it looks like after they add my name to that list there will only be 18 open longsword spots left. They might open more later if the schedule allows but this event is filling up REALLY quick! Best to get it while you can if anyone is interested in going!  :-\

The event is July 23 ~ 26.

It's a shame sword+blucker filled up so fast, I'd have liked to have done that. But I guess I would have needed to sign up 2+ weeks ago. So I signed up for open steel longsword. I expect to get my ass handed to me. :)

I will be content to just get past the first round pools! 84+ combatants is a LARGE pool to fight through!  :-\

Have some arms and armor requirements to work out but I'm excited!

I'm suddenly feeling motivated to get some 14h cen kit going.

(never mind that I may have to for medical reasons anyway)

Did you send Jessica your interest in the format she outlined on the website? She met you at DOK right?

Ack! I didn't realize that was on the site. I saw Bill Frisbee at Shortpoint and he told me to talk to Jessica, but didn't mention the site / requirements. I've remedied that. :)

I saw her at DoK briefly when she was doing the Deed of Arms. I met her at Longpoint back in 2011, I believe, and I think I saw her again at Shortpoint last year (and this year too, but didn't get to talk to her). I have no idea if she'd know who I am, except by association through you and Sir Edward.

Contact Ben Mitchels or Bill Frisbee.  I'm sure they'll be able to get in touch with Jessica.

Yeah, I was going to say, feel free to name-drop me all you want. :)

I ordered an Albion Liechtenauer, and they're pretty sure they can get it to me in time. Otherwise they're satisfied with my gear (or at least, didn't have any complaints at DoK).

Wait, isn't there a guy that swings so hard he bends the swords? (or is that another Longsword/harnesfechten event?)

That was Shortpoint last year. In unarmored combat.

Yep, I'm gonna die. :)

LOL, at least I get my wish of fighting a few times, and washing out, so I can go do other things. :) I'm more focused on the Passage anyway.

Man, this has been a crazy-busy week. I haven't even been on the forum since probably the middle of last week. Last week we did a ton of yard/house work to prepare for my wife's family arriving, and of course they picked the same week that we have Longpoint. So I've been dong family things all week, just in time to run to Longpoint for a couple of days. Whew.

I may plan to do nothing but sleep next week. :)

Thanks. Unfortunately I couldn't bring home a medal for the Order; I lost 3rd by 1 point with only a couple seconds left. But I had an absolute blast!

Chiming in a little late (out of town plus catching up at work, etc). It was a blast! We were absolutely dead tired during the fights. The air conditioning doesn't help as much as you expect it to, and those 2-minute fights are brutally long. It feels like an eternity.

What I find amusing about the videos is how "nonchalant" we appear to be. In the armor, it felt quite violent and tiring. But from the outside, it's like we just calmly walk up and stick the weapon into the other guy. Heh. :)

Ditching the sabatons was a huge help to mobility. I'm not sure why I keep fighting in them, and I just got the whole leg harness a week or two before LP, had never worn them, and just got the arming points for them raised the night before LP too. The little lock-nub didn't do so well on the sabatons, but worked beautifully on the greaves. The cuisses are slightly too tall, or I need to move the points higher. Bill said I looked kinda "clown like" with the sabatons and commented how much better I seemed to move once they were off.

That killed me when I saw it. I know I was tired after a bit, but wow, you can really tell. At least we stayed true to "stick em with the pointy end".
