I know this is more the ren fair crowd here but I was wondering if anyone else is going to Pennsic this weekend.
-
:) no you go shopping for me and buy me all sorts of good stuff.
-
Well I agreed to buy a wedge riveted maille shirt and coif I am picking up Saturday, plan to make it my Hastings shirt with integrated coif :D
-
I envy you; have enough fun for the rest of us! Who are you picking up the mail from, possibly Ice? Please share pictures, after you've had time to recover of course. :)
-
We're not making it there this year. Have a great time!
-
how did u get kim to let u get another shirt? its like what your 4th riveted shirt? heheh i only have 2 riveted and a butted one hehehe
-
It is my third, I picked it up off a guy selling on the archive board. The maille is from the same importer that Ice Falcon and Historic Enterprises buys from but this guy is selling it at a much lower price so could not pass it up.
-
Holy "flat wedge-riveted haubergeon and matching flat wedge-riveted coif for $400" Batman! What a great deal! :o
-
I won't be but Prince Achilles of Sparta and Princess Esmeralda Of The lakes of Cynagua will be.

Yes it is that is why I could not pass it up. I plan to tailor the shirt to double for both Hastings and early crusader. Long sleeves, attached the coif (I have a top at home I will use and keep the coif) and I will make mufflers I can attach for later stuff and remove for Hastings.
-
you know there is some support for hastings mail to be 3/4 sleeve. i dont remember all of my research now after what, 10 years but i remember glen and i discussing this on finds and the tapestry etc hehehe
-
Removing part of the sleeves with the mufflers is no problem, realistically it is a matter of 20-30 rings to cut and later re rivet when needed on rare occasion. That is maybe an hours work to re-rivet each sleeve and I have tons of extra links sitting around.
-
I've got to make it there one of these years if for nothing else than the shopping! Have fun! :)

Oh yes, absolutely. We've found that we need two days to visit all of the shops. You can find just about anything that is interesting to the reenactor community, except decent swords. :)
-
I still plan on going one year...but not this year.
-
About the unit I reenact with is there. I plan to go next year for at least a week. I'm not sure about taking that much time off of work at one shot. I get enough vacation, I'm just not sure I want to pay the price when I would get back to work :'(
-
I can take the time off, but I'd need everything- pavilion/tent, bedding, whatever else you need while you're out there. Something this big would need to be planned out otherwise I'll forget something that I'll totally need and can't get while I'm out there. I can see it unfolding now. lol
-
Well, if your credit card has the room for it, you can just show up and buy everything there. Garb, pavilion, shoes, belts, food, etc.
-
Oh, it has the room...but my paycheck would tell me otherwise. LOL
-
When and where is it? I never heard of this before.

Have a gander, Sir Ulrich...this is the ultimate medievalists' paradise...as real as it is going to get on this side of the pond.
-
This year's Pennsic is going on right now, so you'd have to plan for next year at the earliest. It runs for 2 weeks in early August (usually starts in the last few days of July I think), and it's held a little north of Pittsburgh.
-
They don't offer day or weekend passes?
-
Well, admission is cheaper if you wait til the middle weekend (and thus it's half over already). But no, admission is for the entire event, not just days.
