Title: Harnesfechten @ the Virginia Renaissance Festival
Post by: Sir William on 2013-06-04, 16:02:21
I did not think to capture images from the earlier blossfechten bouts, but Sir James kindly found something for me to do other than stand like a lump so, here are some photos- they are unaltered, taken with a 5MP camera phone so the quality's not great, but you'll get the idea of what's going on.  Enjoy!

In this bout, the first combatants are Sirs James and Nathan, knights of the Order of the Marshal.

As you may surmise from this photo, both combatants performed with spirit and resolve.

In this picture, it appears that Sir James has captured Sir Nathan's sword but it was a ruse and though you cannot see it (because I missed the shot) Sir Nathan performed a sweet grappling move that resulted in Sir James' primary sword arm being taken out of play.

Gauntlet malfunction; a couple of gauntlets had met their respective failures that day as the shots came hard and fast.  In this picture, which is included just because it's a great candid shot, Sir Nathan noticed that one of the finger lames on his gaunts have come undone.

With the hand temporarily seen to (read that as ignored), the two knights prepare to do battle anew.

This time, they close rather quickly - Sir James thrusts for the armpit as Sir Nathan works to foil the attempt.

Here, Sir Nathan goes for Sir James' leg.

I like this shot- not so much what the two fighters are doing, but what you can see of the crowd, they are into it!

Eventually, the match concluded with Sir Nathan as the victor.  Sir Brian, after having refereed the previous match, decided that he too wanted to challenge Sir Nathan.

Sir Nathan, just prior to the start of the bout w/Sir Brian.

They close, both utilizing half-swording stances.

Grappling.

Sir Nathan goes for the hook manuever.

Sir Brian nimbly steps away.

The Clash, you can see where Sir Brian is attempting to bind Sir Nathan's sword.

The Struggle, for supremacy continues in the next three shots.
(http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv64/ebonpaladin/Armor/The%20Order%20of%20the%20Marshal%202011/WP_000835_zpsd7cb22eb.jpg)(http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv64/ebonpaladin/Armor/The%20Order%20of%20the%20Marshal%202011/WP_000834_zpsd21921b4.jpg)

Sir Brian appears to have delivered the Dolorous Stroke via pommel.

However, Sir Nathan has recovered and enters into the breach anew.

And, in amazing display of the laws of physics, Sir Nathan upends Sir Brian- upon which he had the good sense to flee the scene before meeting Sir Brian's wrath!  All you see is the dust trail- Sir Nathan was gone!

Actually, it was a beautiful move and my cameraphone's half-second lag was just long enough to miss the actual move and only capture the denouement.  Apologies to all.

Sir Brian actually rose rather quickly, and then graciously conceded the bout to Sir Nathan who with that announcement became the Champion of the Day!  Well done, Sirs James, Brian and Nathan, huzzah!!!

And here are a couple of snaps of the Order's encampment at VARF.

And a shot of the photographer w/Sir James.

Thank you kindly, Sir Wolf- sorry I missed you, I did not know you'd be coming through!  Well, I didn't come til Sunday so can I still say that?  lol

That CoP actually belongs to Sir James- he loaned it to Sir Brian for that round of bouting.

Nice photo display & I love the encampment setup. :) Hope I get to see it some time soon.
Sir William looks very Loxley in the new helm.
Sir Brian looks appropriate in the CoP. :) Very nice!!!

Those were amazing matches to watch!  I told Sir Brian that afternoon, but the focus exhibited from the Knights, even when just explaining things, was palpable and so very impressive.

Awesome portraitures, Sir William!

Sir William, can I repost these on the book of faces?

I was going to ask the same thing. I have an album started on there for the demos this year. I've only been trickling a few photos into it so far so that they get individual attention, but I think we'll also want to do a shotgun-blast of photos at some point too.

Sirs James, Edward et al- if I post them here, please feel free to repost them wherever, this applies to any images I post from hereon out, including any in this thread.

If I make it this weekend I will bring the 70-200 / 2.8 to hopefully get some good action shots.

Oh, that would be awesome, Sir Ian.  My phone didn't really do it justice- those pics should pop instead of looking flat like they do.  My wife's camera is a good deal better but I did not think to bring it.

Dane, that's the Marshal helm, not Loxley's, but you're on the right track.  ;)

That would be great! Maybe between all of us, we'll get a few that would work as promotional photos.

What, they just change linkings arbitrarily?  I've got like a thousand images on there...I'd hate to have to re-do all that somewheres else.  Here I was hoping they'd just come back on their own.  What's that about insanity being one who performs the same action time and again looking for a different outcome?  lol

Weird, you didn't move anything? Looks like it's in a folder that says "2011" in it. If you move anything on Photobucket, it breaks all the images you've posted before. Forums with stuff posted is the same reason I've been hanging onto my own PB so far. :(

It'd be great to see all those amazing pics again.

That's a shame ghetto-bucket is at it again... definitely setting up a flikr account when and if I ever get a chance at having my camera stuff found  ;D

Ohhhh...thats what it was.  I changed the folder name- took out the 2011.  Ok, let me go and see if I can fix it.  Not PB fault, all mine.

A friend recorded some video on one of the days (not sure if he got the harnessfechten or not), but he hasn't sent it to me yet. We'll hopefully see a copy of it eventually.

Thank you, the harnessfechten was quite a blast, I love it!

Having never really seen it before up close, I have to say its a different beast from blossfechten.  If I had to describe it to someone, I'd say blossfechten is polite- harnesfechten is not.  Much more like a fight.
