Been meaning to ask...is the cross at all historical?

Those dagger-pointed crosses did exist. It's called a "cross fitchy" (or fitchee). This particular one would be more of a "cross pattée fitchy". As to whether the Teutonic order used it in the time that the surcoat/cloak is appropriate to, I'm not sure.

The cross fitchy is mostly associated with the Order of Santiago, isn't it? Specifically, the cross fleury fitchy.
