All that's visible in the profile pages while not logged in is the most public information. Forum name, age & gender if you've entered them, website address if you've entered it, last login date, and not much else.

I don't like 'guests'...lol

When did guests get to start posting?  A guest posted on the "comments/criticisms of the Order's webpage" thread today.  I don't mind that this person posted, I just didn't know guest could.

Hey, that's news to me...I thought it was read-only access for them.  lol

Yep, it's still read-only for guests. What happened was that he accidentally deleted his own account after posting, while trying to change his username, so that's why it shows as a guest (the account no longer exists). He's re-registered now.

Yep, I tossed a wrench. My apologies for the misinformation. Thanks Sir Edward! :)

I'm not sure exactly how the forum is configured, but it's possible some of them were search engine spiders pooling info.

I suspect some of them are. I think there's probably also some search-engine users that pass through while searching for something related to knights or armor.

That is odd. I see one of those on right now, from an IP in Romania. I've blocked it.

Good idea. I had a bad experience with a Romanian cyber criminal who spoofed someone's ebay account once.

I had a bad experience with a Romanian woman.  I'll leave it at that.  lol

LOL

I said it for effect...truth is, if I ever met one, I would definitely have a story to tell!  Sadly, my experience has been almost decidedly American when it comes to women.  lol

I shouldn't jest, I have no complaints.

Maybe they're playing with themselves but that would not compute...

I'd be tempted to block all of RIPE, but they serve a lot of Europe.

Ok, I'll ask- what's RIPE?  :)

Oh sorry, it's one of the main IP registrars for the net, serving parts of Europe, Asia, and the middle east. Most of the time that I end up manually blocking IPs from hitting the server, they are somewhere in a region served by RIPE.

BTW, here's a map of the various RIRs (regional internet registries):

That's a strange one. Thanks for pointing these out, BTW. Often I can go look and see that they're coming from Asia or something, and block the IP on the server.

EDIT: I'm looking up info regarding that particular message. I'm trying to see if I can figure out what some of these guests are doing that the login info can't show it.

Did some digging. Looks like this IP was a crawler called Exabot, which is the crawler for the Exalead search engine. It's a poorly designed one, in that it ignores "robots.txt" and defies other best-practices. Sure enough, the logs show it slogging through the indexes on the forum. But it's also been poking through every available link, like the new-user registration, user profiles, etc. It almost looks like it got stuck, hitting the same links repeatedly. So not really a big deal, it just looks suspicious.

If it's ignoring robots, it's growing too complacent and powerful for it's own good, and must be dealt with. :D

Heh. :) It may have gotten better. My logs show it looking at robots.txt. Not sure if actually heeds it though. :)
