PA Ren-Faire, Manheim, PA. Opening: Sat., Aug. 3, 2013.
MD Ren-Faire, Crownsville, MD. Opening: Sat., Aug. 24, 2013.
King Richard's Faire, Carver, MA. Opening: Sat., Aug. 31, 2013.
CT Ren-Faire, Norwich, CT. Opening: Sat., Sept. 21, 2013.
Preferences anyone???
-
Well MDRF is my home faire but I will only be able to make it on Sundays except of course for Labor Day Weekend. I will most likely make one of the first 3 Sundays of PARF. NYRF is not a big favorite of my wife’s so we only make that one every couple years. :)
-
PARF is in MD? How odd.
-
MDRF will likely be the only one for me due to Days of Knights and the plethora of projects, but I'm hoping to make 4-6 sundays at MDRF.
-
PARF is in MD? How odd.
Oops. Corrected. :) Thank you.
-
Cool; how far is Manheim from Philly? Been trying to get my sister to check it out for the past few years now.
I plan on at least 3 weekends at MDRF; might even try for the opening day since I've never been to that.
-
PARF is about 90 minutes from Philly off I-76 West. ;)
-
Hm. 7 hour round trip at least...need to be an overnighter then. Have we had any word about Sir John's knighting ceremony?
-
It used to take us maybe 2.5 hours to get to PARF from Sterling. It's actually almost a straight shot up 83 from Baltimore (almost, since you still have to cut over eastward on 76).
Google actually says it's only 2:09 from my new place in Leesburg, taking a different route (up 15 and over 76). Huh.
PARF's address:
2775 Lebanon Road
Manheim, PA 17545
-
i would really like to hit the parf its been years since i was there. it was a fun faire but its seems kinda expensive.
-
Hm. 7 hour round trip at least...need to be an overnighter then.
7 hours from your area? From my house it is just under 2 hours so it shouldn't be much longer from your house Sir William. PARF is actually a faster drive for me than going to VARF because it is less traffic and the interstate exits less than a 1/4 mile from it. ;)
-
If you guys want to meet up at PARF, my wife & I want to go there as we have not seen it yet. It looks fantastic (and they allow weapons). :) If we can arrange a weekend that works for all, they give group discounts on tickets. I say armor up!! :) :) I'll come for the whole weekend. I'm planning for Aug 3, 4 or Aug 10, 11 weekend.
-
Alas if/when we go it would have to be a Sunday only as I have to work on Saturdays but as you implied, it is definitely worth going for a weekend and there is a decent hotel (Hampton Inn) just across the highway (Lebanon Road) from the faire although it tends to fill up quickly. ;)
http://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/hotels/pennsylvania/hampton-inn-manheim-MHMPAHX/accommodations/index.html (http://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/hotels/pennsylvania/hampton-inn-manheim-MHMPAHX/accommodations/index.html)
-
Anyone interested in either weekend?? Opening day at any big faire is always a good time & turn out. :) PARF anyone?? If so, PM me and we'll make plans.
-
Consulted with milady and she is more in favor of the 11th. Anyone else going to be able to make that day? ???
-

Not likely, as we have the tentative event on the 13th and I'll be prepping for that and/or birthday things; but have fun and take pictures!
-
I'm in Sir Brian. Aug 11 Sunday PARF. Have to check but looks good. I'm going to NYRF Aug 3, 4.
-
BTW there is an annual one up in Lake Tahoe in June if you ever want to beat the heat.

Well, my calculation was based on distance from Philly, which takes me about 2 hours to reach, so another 1.5 hours and there you have it for the round trip factor.

Ah yes that would explain the several hours! ;)
Coming from the greater Baltimore area it is a more direct route to take I-83 North going through York and then taking the I-76 toll road straight into PARF.
-
Heck yeah, going through Philly first would add a huge amount to the trip compared to going straight to Manheim.
-
Sir Brian & I are good for PARF Sunday, 8/11/13. Anyone else?? :)
-
august? in PA ug thats a hot faire!
i'm stupid though, i will be here in the heat of ohio on lake erie http://www.ddayohio.us/ (http://www.ddayohio.us/) the 16/17th IN WOOL!

Sir Wolf nailed it. That's my morning event. ;)
Evening event will, as of now, be some of the VARF cast entertaining a summer camp for children with cancer.
-
Ah right, thought that might be what that was about. Didn't know you were a dancer; keep you in mind for my sister's bachelorette party. ;)
I never saw that Chippendale's clip before...may both those guys rest in peace.
-
Sir Brian (or anyone else going to PARF - 2013)

Just got mine. :) See you Sunday, 8/11/2013 PARF. I shall be drinking much!!!! ;D
Get to sport the new black & brass kit too!!! Woo-hoo!!
-
Excellent! Thanks and see you then! :)
-
Anyone coming to PaRF be sure to come down to the Trayned Band camp and say hi to me. And keep an eye out for the schedule to catch some of our demos: combined arms and artillery. If you stick around for the final joust, the company I'm in has a pretty big part in the fighting.
-
Haven't met you yet Sir Matthew but ... we'll do. Will you be working at PARF? Sir Brian & I will be there Sun 8/11. Join us for drinking & we'll join you for fighting!!!! :)
-

Unfortunately I can not join you for drinking, as the group I reenact with portrays the Trayned Band there and are considered part of cast. This means that no drinking can take place until after the Faire day has ended.
-
Oh ok. So what you are saying is fighting first then drinking. :) That works too. LOL We can have some afterwards.
-
I'm planning to hit PARF this coming Sunday. After that, it'll be MDRF for a while. :)
-
Not sure if wife can come or will but I can try for MDRF opening weekend.
-
Anyone who will be at PaRF this weekend, don't forget to come down to the Trayned Band encampment in the picnic grove (behind the infomistress) and say hi to me. We have combined arms demo at 1 in the camp and artillery demos at 3 and 5:30 on the joust field, come catch one of our shows.
-
Aye you will be one of our first stops! :)
-
well??
-
It was nice to see Sirs Brian and Edward again and to finally meet Lord Dane. Thanks for stopping by camp and saying hi. Hope to catch up with you guys again soon.

Yes, it was a nice faire day, and it was great to see you fine gentlemen once again. I'm Sorry Lord Dane and his lovely wife weren't able to join us for dinner. I was hoping ti would be an opportunity to talk some more, but that's OK. I know we were leaving the faire a little early.
-
Sorry the day was short but it was great to meet you, Sir Matthew. And of course to spend some time with Sirs Edward & Brian and their fairy wives. :) Was a good day. Hopefully we can plan for a longer day next time. Here are some photos of the day.
-
Looking at that first picture, I feel way under dressed without my armor on standing by Sirs Brian and Ed! You guys all looked great. I'm glad the photographer waited for me to finish my lunch before snaping those shots!
-
Mind if I snag one or two of the photos to post on the FB page?
-
Excellent pics!
-
Great pics of a great day! I really enjoyed seeing you and your lovely lady Lord Dane as well as catching up a bit with you Matthew! :)
I also regret the short duration of our day together as well as the first time I ever succumbed to the heat with the armor and had to shed it. Alas I made it most of the day! :-\

Yeah, it's the start of the season. I always expect to have to re-acclimate. And it did get hotter than expected.
-
Some more photos PARF 8/11/2013. :)
-
Looks like it was a good outing; sorry to have missed it!
-
Now that last pic makes me feel better. I'm behind the Sargeant, the fellow with the red sash, in the pike block. Lord Dane, I forgot to ask, how did you like our demo?

Excellent portrayal. Very good show & demonstration. My best to your company. :)
Good to meet you as well.

Feel free, KC. :) Just please give to credit to my wife, Lady Rachel, for the photos.

Here's one more pic from PARF:

I didn't realize we had another forum member at Faire Sunday. Next time your around PaRF, come on down to the Trayned Band camp and introduce yourself to me, Douglas. I'm always happy to meet other members from the forum.

Will do! I'll be back out there in September.

if the maryland faire hasnt started yet, i could manage to go there. and if any other knights are going to the pa faire this year i could manage to go again.

MDRF starts this weekend, and runs until Oct 20th
-
PaRF runs 1 weekend longer in Oct. than MdRF.
-
Good news Im most likely gonna go to the maryland renfaire this year with my father. Ill know when by tomorrow. it will probably be in the fall, so it would be nice to go in a weekend when you guys are going.
-
P.a. renfaire takes me about an hour and im 15min. outside philly
-
You guys all went to the PARF the weekend before me. It wouldnt have mattered much since I wasnt informed of you guys till the weekend after. still would have been nice to see other knights, It would have probably been inevitable that I would have been told of the order.
-
Some of us are there about half of the faire season, so we'll likely cross paths. We tend to post about who is planning to visit on what weekends as those weekends get close. Keep an eye out for the posts.
-
Besides the Labor day weekend I will only be able to make MDRF on Sundays. Also the second to last weekend of October 12/13 I will be at a living history event in Kentucky along with several OTM brethren.
-
I will be at NYRF (Tuxedo Park) on Sunday all day 8/25. Anyone else planning??
-

Not I, it's opening weekend at MDRF.
-
So this is probably a longshot since most of you fine fellows seem to live closer to the coast, but if anyone's planning on hitting the Pittsburgh Fest this weekend, I'll most likely be there on Saturday, weather permitting.
-
I wonder if I could manage to go this weekend. but I think I might have plans.
-
if I can manage to go it would be on sunday. Any other knights going to maryland fair on sunday?
-
A bunch of the VARF cast are planning to hit Pittsburgh on the weekend of September 21 (I think). Of course that's the weekend I'll be at WMAW.
Otherwise, it's safe to assume I'll be at MDRF most weekends between now and the end of October. :)
-
Opening weekend always falls on my anniversary weekend so as much as I'd like to, I doubt I'll obtain the necessary permissions from my better half to attend. Unless I can talk her into coming along, but I hold no real hope of that. :-\
-
I'm planning on hitting the Kansas City Ren Faire the weekend of September 14th. It's the biggest Faire in the MidWest and I've never been. I wonder if I will run into Stormdelver...
-
Well if you do he will probably attempt to recruit you for the Order, just play along with him! - Right Sir Nathan? ;)
-
Sir Brian and Sir Edward, you'll be making MDRF this Sunday? I was thinking Saturday, but if you're both going on Sunday, I'll do the same and armor up. And that gives me a day to get my sewing repairs and upgrades done, too.
-
I'm planning on both days. Sir Brian, Saturday or just Sunday?
Between the two, Sunday looks to be slightly cooler:
http://weather.yahoo.com/united-states/maryland/crownsville-2387843/ (http://weather.yahoo.com/united-states/maryland/crownsville-2387843/)
-
I will definitely be there all day Sunday and I MIGHT make it later on Saturday. If I can make it on Saturday I will probably go light armor and go heavy on Sunday. :-\
-
OK, I'll aim for Sunday for armor then. :)
-
It's official Im going to the MD renfaire next weekend.
im so excited, it will be my first time there.
-
Wow its been a while, due to changing circumstances, I will only be in Maryland on Saturdays this year, and was at PA on opening day but, well, its very lite on entertainment so I won't be there again until maybe the end, I'm sure they wont miss me. Anyway it looks like my travels are done for some time, *sigh* I rather liked all the fairs I have visited over the last three years. Hope to see you all in MD this season. My squire will be in full plate this year so we are hoping for cooler days.
-
Cool, I look forward to seeing all of you there!
-
I should be out there tomorrow, armor as well. I managed to severely strain my right upper chest today; whether it was the bow, the armor cleaning, the dent removal, the sewing, the compensation of my right arm doing everything since I still don't have 100% use of my left thumb/grip again yet, or the culmination of it all, I have no idea. When it hurts to sit up, hurts to lay down, and getting out of the shower you go to dry off and it's sheer agony the likes of which you can't even raise your arm overhead to dry off... something is amiss. I'm hoping my friends Ice Pack and Couple Aleves will make it go away by morning! At least the car is already loaded and ready to go. :)
-
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow Sir James and hope we see you soon Stormdelver!
Oh and one of the security guys at MDRF asked me to let him know in advance the next time we do a knighting so he can make sure his son is there to see it. So your knighting was quite the hit last year! :)
-

Sir Brian, did you also remind him that traditional knightings require a 'sword' they do not allow @ MDRF?? LOL :)

We worked around that little problem with security at MDRF by holding the ceremony just outside the main entrance with the portcullis as a backdrop. ;)
-
are you allowed to have swords at all at the MDRF?
-
nope. no blades, no bows, leave your knives at home
-
Had a thought while I was laying in bed today nursing my shoulder; is a staff banned at MDRF? Obviously can't bring my spear or polearms, but I'm working on a Templar kit, and I have a Templar pennant attached to a 7 foot pole. Wonder if that's allowed inside?
-
i used to carry a 6 ft staff. but that was years ago
-
Call it a walking stick and it should be fine since they allow some pretty elaborate ones which is ironic because they are far more dangerous than our 'specials'. ::)
-
wow no weapons, that kinda sucks.
-
does anyone know why there are no weapons allowed there? what happened?
-
As the urban myth goes…some drunken ‘F-ing TARD’ pulled a sword on a cast member. But the stark reality is the fair is owned by a family of lawyers who don’t like liabilities. :-\
-
I know my cousin also named nate.
went with a group of kendo friends and got into a giant sword fight a few years back.
they were samurais fighting vikings I think.
that might be what happened.
-
It's also in the 'Great' State of Maryland... and that's all you need to know when it comes to freedom to carry weapons :)
-
lol, go maryland.
-

I heard similar, but a knife drawn on a bartender
Lawyers + MD probably has a large amount to do with it :)
-
ya the law is no knife above 3.5 inches. but i think in the faire they ask regular people about having no knives on site at all
-
I say we just siege the faire & make it a conquest for the Order. What can they do against a bunch of armored knights with blades?? :P
-
they can shoot us.
we could have bullet proof vests in the place of plate armor. or have kevlar instead of gambesons.
-

Their security is a bunch of barely trained, unarmed, non-violent, private seasonal help in t-shirts & there is typically no Police or Sheriff to be found on-site for help. LOL No need. We'll do this medieval style.

I'll be making the trek back out to PaRF this weekend (Sept. 7-8). Anybody else going?
-
nonono the brothers whom are the owners ARE lawyers

Not I. I probably won't make it back up there this season.
-
Some King Richard's Faire (KRF) shots from this Sat 9/7/2013. Good day for armor. :)
-
Some more photos of KRF 2013. :)
-
looking good man!
-
Nice! Looking good!
-
Awesome kit, Lord Dane :) Looks like you made the day for a lot of those folks.
-
Thanks guys. Was alot of fun. :)
-
Looking good!
-
Kit looks great!
-
Very cool! Looks like you were a hit with the wee ones.
I don't know why, but when I look at that first one, all I can think is, "Curses! I hath locked mine keyes in yonder caravanne!"
-
Oooh, 69 degrees and mostly sunny on Saturday at MDRF? Armor it is!

-
I shall sport the new black & brass. :)

Teaching the niece and nephew archery this weekend. Also doing a setup and checklist for DoK, make sure the tent is still in good shape, check the furniture, make replacement pieces, etc. Gotta do that while I have helpful hands nearby.
Such great armor weather too! Have fun!!

Already have 2 blackened coifs for my new kit. One butted & riveted.

Well done.

Final day of NYRF (Great day!!!) :) Love this faire.

Opening day @ Connecticut RenFaire (CTRF) in Norwich 9/21/2013. New location!!
