Title: Project GODUS, and other kickstarter games
Post by: Sir Edward on 2012-12-19, 14:49:57
Have any of you every played any of the "god games" from Peter Molyneux? Such as Populous or Black & White?

He has a kickstarter campaign going for a new one called Project GODUS:

There's about 50 hours left and they're still about £20,000 shy of their goal. I signed up. (BTW, there's little risk in signing up because you only get charged if they reach the funding goal. The risk comes after that-- hoping they actually deliver the goods later. But when it's a big-name game developer like this, I'm pretty confident they'll come through. These games are in genres that publishers don't trust anymore since there's no recent sales data, so they're going to kickstarter, cutting out the middle-man, and developing and delivering straight to the player).

I also signed up for these below, as they look fascinating (and the second one is being done by the guy behind Wing Commander Privateer and Freelancer):

Elite: Dangerous  (after many, many years, finally a new Elite game. I never played the original but have heard great things about it over the years)

Star Citizen (expected to be somewhat of an MMO version of Privateer or Freelancer)

And of course we talked previously about Sui Generis:

I played an early beta build/download of Populous: the Beginning back in 97...had a blast with it but didn't have the time or inclination to get into it as I was more attracted to games like Diablo and Doom in that 'era' of my life.  This Godus is worth looking into; a friend of mine extolled Black and White as an excellent game that I haven't gotten around to trying out just yet.

I should also mention that I am a HUGE fan of his Fable series, despite the fact that he's never delivered what was promised, the games were still entertaining and immersive to play, with high replay values (at least for me).
