I have to work this Saturday and Sunday is Ed & Kat's wedding of course, but next weekend (8th & 9th) I'll be there both days. :)

I was contemplating going sunday with my wife, weather permitting.

Sir Wolf, care to make a detour by my place on your way home saturday to pick up the steel? :)

I'll try to shoot for Sunday next weekend.

Are we still a go for your knighting ceremony on the 23rd James?

Are we still a go for your knighting ceremony on the 23rd James?

I contacted RQP last week to inquire about getting my spurs strapped, I did indeed order them without straps and didn't notice (since the straps are on another page than the spurs - thank you for mentioning that with Sir Nathan's spurs or I wouldn't have known until they got here). I am shooting for the 16th since I will be in NJ the 22nd for a birthday party and going straight to MD Renn Fest from there (getting up at 6am and driving 5 hours straight will likely leave me a bit haggered, if I can even make it up and out that early). I'm planning to bring the kids (our "semi-adopted nieces/nephew that call us mom & dad but aren't technically ours"), and I may have the nephew on hand and in soft kit for part of the ceremony as a standard-bearer. The 23rd is also "day of wrong" so I was planning to wear a non-medieval kit.

I wanted to get Allan to modify/replace my greaves from my kit so that they would fit to "finish off" my kit (I got my fancy metal shoes yesterday and a helm a few weeks ago), but that isn't an option now :( and a local armorer I contacted never responded to me for over a month now. I had no luck getting BJ (who did Sir Nathan's surcoat) to respond to me from 6 weeks ago, even with Sir Nathan prompting her, so I'm trying to find someone who could do a surcoat, and time is quickly ticking away with little success. :(

If the 16th isn't possible due to lack of spurs/unfinished kit the 23rd is my fallback date. I've got my ceremony about 90% written, just need to revise and review some of the little details and will post it for feedback and approval once I finish that. If things still aren't ready on the 23rd I'm not sure what to do from there; I'm crossing my fingers and hoping the 16th or 23rd pans out. I wish I had a definite answer. :(

Wow, hard to believe the season here is about over, and its been crazy. I noted that I travel quite a lot so the upside has been seeing fairs all over the US, buts its truly been a bit wearing.

I have mostly been at the PA Faire this year due to timing, I often get in sometime around 12 on Saturday from a flight so that leaves only Sunday for a Faire, I was in MD last weekend to see Barlyjuice and will return the 15th/16th I think. I miss my brothers is been very lonley at most Faires being the only Knight. I have had some interesting experiences though, including a special appearance at Midieval Times in CA after meeting the Director- it was interesting. Now where am I going to hide a horse on my wife.....

Sir Robert! Good to have you back! I do hope you can make MDRF the 16th as that will be the Knighting of Squire James!  :)
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?
Post by: Sir William on 2011-10-06, 20:33:59
I am uncertain about this weekend...but my chances of making it are probably this weekend and the last weekend of the Faire.
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?
Post by: Sir Robert on 2011-10-06, 21:09:00
Yes I should be making it for that, not too sure about Saturday as I am traveling back from Texas, but I should be there.

I will say that this season has been disappointing overall, too many old friends gone and not the crowds that I am used to. Its been a stange year for many, there has been a lot of loss in the PA area due to the flooding and the Hurrican did not help I would say.

I have had great opportunity to meet up with a great German Mercenary group in California, they adopted me fairly quickly, or felt very sorry for me in the heat. An awesome group that I will miss untill next year.

I am planning going to the Texas Faire at least once- assuming its going to open as it was consumed in the wildfires I am told. I also may finf my way to the winter faires in the south as well.

I have been introspective this year in my travels and will say that there has never been a time that needed knights more than now. People are becomming so uncivilized to each other and so disconnected in worshiping their electronic gadgets, they forget that people are more importaint than all the stuff.

To all of you I have missed you my brothers, its been a long trail this year.

I am planning a trip to CRG over Veterans Day Weekend to close out my Faire season, perhaps our paths will cross there. If not, I hope to see you one last time at PaRF.

Yeah, attendance has been down at MDRF this year so far too, due to the rain, hurricane, etc. But this coming weekend has a pretty clear weather report so far. If it holds up, I may want to do armor both days. We'll see how it goes.

I think I can make this Sunday if anyone's going...you fellows know where to send your ravens should you decide to join me.  :)
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?
Post by: Sir Edward on 2011-10-07, 16:27:16

I know Sundays usually work better for Sir Brian. Maybe I'll armor light on Saturday and fully kit up on Sunday.
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?
Post by: Sir William on 2011-10-07, 16:39:07
Might be the smart move...I think Saturday is supposed to be near 80.  I'm getting over a nasty little bug so I'm a little weaker than usual.  Hoping by Sunday I'm back to 100%.
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?
Post by: Sir Brian on 2011-10-07, 19:22:24
I was going to actually do the opposite and go full armor Saturday and kilt it Sunday. I only got to wear my kilt once this year so far. :)
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?
Post by: Sir Edward on 2011-10-07, 19:30:18

Huh, OK, I was assuming you couldn't do Saturday.

Actually Saturday looks to be cooler (75). I can do armor that day and something light on Sunday too.

I'm planning to head out there on Sunday, but likely in soft kit again, unless I get the strap on my arms replaced and have some help armoring up (and still no greaves :( ). I was sick yesterday and missed the entire day of work due to a "disturbance in the lower force", perhaps armor might not be the easiest thing to disrobe rapidly, if necessary.
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?
Post by: Sir Edward on 2011-10-07, 20:30:03

Yeah, armor doesn't come off nearly as fast as soft kits, that's for sure.

Soft kit for me on Sunday will probably be my woodsman outfit or one of my early medieval tunics.

With Monday a holiday I decided to take this Saturday off and actually work the holiday so I get to go both days to faire and yes the weather should be perfect! :)

Well it sounds like Jon and Jason are talking about doing armor on Sunday. Maybe I'll do full kit Sat and half kit Sun. We'll see how it goes.

Hey, Sir James, what time is the ceremony? And it's still the 16th, right?
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?
Post by: Sir Edward on 2011-10-10, 19:49:01

There was some talk about possibly changing the knighting plans.

That might be fortuitous. There's a chance I might have to work on Sunday the 16th. Sunday nights are the highest load on our servers, and our system didn't quite survive the night last night. We may be babysitting it next week.
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?
Post by: Sir James A on 2011-10-11, 03:46:01
Amongst the other things poking at the 16th not being a good date for the ceremony, I completely glazed over the fact my spurs haven't even come in yet. I think there's enough things to warrant postponing it; whether that means the 23rd (closing weekend) or another date/time is still under consideration. I have a couple options I'm looking into. Once it's set in stone, I'll post a thread.
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?

Alright, anyone heading down the 15/16th weekend? I'll probably be there for the 16th, maybe 15th also.

I'll be there the 16th but primarily show-seeing with my wife.
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?

I might only make it on the 15th, but I'm not sure yet. Still depends on how things are looking at work.
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?
Post by: Sir William on 2011-10-12, 14:36:27
I meant to make it last week and couldn't get out the door...I have a wedding to attend on the 16th so if I do come, it'd be on the 15th, but that's not set in stone.
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?
Post by: Sir James A on 2011-10-12, 21:32:54
I got a call today from the seamstress and my surcoat would not be done in time for the 16th. Between my many issues, Sir William's wedding attendance, and Sir Edward's unknown work requirement, it seems a very good thing that my ceremony is postponed since that would mean 2 of the only 3 knights would likely not be attending. :)

Tentative date is now be the same day as Sir Nathan's (Nov 19th) and the same, or at least same town, location.
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?

I think I'll be in attendance the 16th, with my lady hopefully  :)
Sir James, I'll see if I can get that macehead handed off to you there.

Here is a photo our mutual friend Wayne took of us and posted on FB.  :)

I like Sean Hayes's comment on it on facebook. He said "Good Lord! It's Die Manessesche Liederhandschrift come to life!"

"Die Manessesche Liederhandschrift" is another name for Codex Manesse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_Manesse). I have a copy of that on order, and it should be here any day now. It was created around 1340, and is one of the main period sources of imagery we have that depicts great helms with large crests.

Here's a google search for Codex Manesse images:  www.google.com/search?q=codex+manesse&hl=en&prmd=imvnsb&tbm=isch (http://www.google.com/search?q=codex+manesse&hl=en&prmd=imvnsb&tbm=isch)

Thanks for the link, Sir Ed.
So just wondering, who will be armouring up, and what day? I'll be attending either day, (15th or 16th) in armour.
My lady will be in Attendance, and I'd like to show her that I'm not the only guy who does this  ;)

I'll be going the 16th in armor light. :)

Excellent link Sir Edward! :)

Sir Nathan, I doubt it would matter even if that were so...but I must apologize in advance as I now know I will not be making it for either day.  You lot make sure to take pictures ok?
Title: Re: mdrf this sat?
Post by: Sir Edward on 2011-10-14, 18:40:31

I'll only be there tomorrow (the 15th). I haven't decided if I'm armoring up. I might do armor light, or maybe pull out my mid-14th gear, I don't know. I have some faire newbies showing up tomorrow as well, and it's always easier to drag people around when wearing something more comfortable, but the armor always blows them away too.. :)

Well, as it turns out, my lady has a family obligation, so she can't make this weekend. She is going to try for closing weekend though.    I will be there, probably the 16th. In armour. I'll be wearing my new surcoat with the maille kit.

Cool! I'll be there in armor light. I'll bring my hollow earth waster instead of my Maryland 'special' so we can have a little impromptu practice session! Oh and I’ll also bring your spurs so we can fit them properly to your feet for your upcoming ceremony! ;)

Indeed, I will be there tomorrow, but most of the day is dedicated to my wife, my brother and the nieces/nephew, so I will be occupied most of the time. I will be there on the 23rd too, and armoring up that day - but out of period.

I doubt you can take wooden swords in. The wasters idea is for the parking lot, for playtime after (or during) the day. It beats sitting in traffic for an hour to get out of the parking lot! :)

I will be there Sun the 23rd, but not Sat the 22nd.

Argh. I can't make it Sunday. I had everything packed and got a call at 2:30am last night from my parents - now, I'm down in NC helping my parents with the cleanup and restoration - the water heater busted in the house and flooded the first floor. There's a bunch of dehumidifiers and fans set up, plastic all over the place, walls covered in mold - got the busted water heater disconnected and bypassed it by running the other water heater directly into the primary hot out line, so we've got hot water back but can't sleep on the first floor at all and we're dealing with the "fun" of insurance, and the crew is coming back at 7am in the morning to continue. I'm 6 hours away from MDRF and will be here probably all day tomorrow to continue, but have to get home by Monday morning to take my dad in for surgery.

Sir Brian - I will find a way to coordinate and meet with you to give you the check for Sallie and to pick up my surcoat. I'll try to get in touch with you monday evening post-surgery, or tuesday during the day.

I was there on Saturday but missed Nathan...my wife was not feeling well so it was time to go.  In the group shot, the short one with the horned helm, I saw him on Saturday dressed as the King (he was in a previous year's group shot in the same garb).  Where'd you find the giant in the reaver get up- not that you would miss him, of course.  lol

What is most worrisome is it being in her left kidney which her ureter on that side is too convoluted to allow a stone to pass and would require surgery to remove…just like the one last year that put her in the hospital for four days with a nasty kidney infection.  :(

Thank you all my brethren for the kind thoughts and prayers!  :)

The doctor prescribed antibiotics and is treating her for a kidney infection. Hopefully that is all it will turn out to be and the stones won't increase or lodge somewhere and block her ureter.  :-\

Thoughts and prayers that the prescribed treatment works and all is well again.

I'd like to checkout MDRF if travel permits. Be nice to meet the group. It's a 7 hour drive for me from Massachusetts.

That sounds like a plan, I hope I can make it to the August date but the rest is shot due to me and college.  Anyone else?

In that case, I know someone else who will be doing harnessfechten at VARF next year. You missed so much 'fun' heat and humidity this year. ;)

Which is another reason why you and Sir Nathan need to train on your blosz fechten so we can all rotate the duties of the Harnischfechten and enjoy our personal and portable saunas more!  ;)

I'm going to shoot for the Sat. of Memorial Day weekend for my likely only trip to MdRF this season. I wasn't able to slip away from PaRF last year, but I want to check out the set up at Hengrave Hall and get some pics of their cooking area, so I'm going to do my best to make it down this year.

This thread's title keeps throwing me off. We're way out of season to be talking about "this saturday". :)
