Title: Ranger Marcus Cole for Knighthood!
Post by: Thorsteinn on 2012-05-09, 03:56:33
Babylon 5 - Marcus vs Neroon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LxvxubIsaM#)

"We are Rangers.
We walk in the dark places no others will enter.
We stand on the bridge, and no one may pass.
We live for the One.
We die for the One."

Is Marcus Cole knightly?
Does his character arc show an almost classic knightly journey?

Discus.

Wow, I haven't watched the show since it aired (though it's on the to-do list to show it to my wife), so I'll have to go by memory. But I think in many ways it is a classic knightly journey, starting out a little rough around the edges, but over time earning the respect of those around him, willing to lay his life on the line to stand up for what he believes in.

I do remember these scenes. I thought it was an excellent part of the story. The fact that he was willing to duel to the death with someone he could not defeat earned him the respect of that adversary, and changed the entire outcome for the better.

I admit I am not familiar with the show but in my view.  I can say that the named fictional character does show some of the classic Knightly traits in his actions and in his words.

Respect is the medium between warriors and fighting to the death is not always the answer.

"Bugger, now I have to wait for someone to wake up."  ...  lol, I loved that. And also "You see, just as I've I've always said. You can get more with a kind word and a 2x4, than with just a kind word." :)
