Ramon Lull's Book of Knighthood and Chivalry

In addition to Geffroi de Charny's Book of Knighthood, we also have this other period source for information about knighthood and chivalry. Ramon Lull was a former knight, turned sorta-pseudo-quasi monk/friar. He had changed careers before writing this book, and I think it shows. Where Charny seems to be taking care of his own, Lull comes off as more finger-pointing. The difference is subtle, but that's the impression I received.
This book is a real drag to read. It's short, and yet I still haven't brought myself to finish it. Charny's book is much more interesting, despite its verbosity (as stated in the foreword, Charny never uses one word where three will suffice). But Lull's writing strikes me as being almost like a grade-school book report in comparison.
Still, it's interesting from the standpoint of being a period source.

He lived from about 1232–1315, and this particular work was written somewhere in the range of 1279-1283.

Ah, so in the mail/coat of plates combo period. I'm more of a plate armour guy myself, so I like the feel of the early to middle Fifteenth Century more.

Ramon Lull reminds me of the tv series "Brother Cadfael". Once knight turned frair. Good stuff.
