Title: All best stuff has new Stuff
Post by: Sir Nate on 2016-06-27, 00:30:17
All best stuff mail makers have revamped their website and also have shields and a nice Crusader Bible Helmet. If you have not bought any mail from all best stuff and are in need I will reccomend it.

I've heard good things about their maille, so I will likely go to them for a hauberk, once I have built my soft kit. If I can figure out their "sleeve tapering" selection, that is.

It means the diameter of the sleeve at the shoulder is larger than the diameter at the wrist. Highly recommended.

Yeah after trying on Sir James' 6mm riveted habergeon on Sunday, I'm definitely getting one from them. Hopefully I'll be able to order one in a couple of months! :)

Although when I get mine I'll either cut a slit to open the elbow or cut away the back half from the elbow to the end of the sleeve and lace it together since the open parts are covered with the vambraces and elbow cop.

It is too bad that they don't offer to tailor the elbow area...although it'd be labor intensive for them, it would be nice for us, no?  ;)

you could put in a personal request. I asked nitin to add tapering to my sleeves and he did, no extra charge. That was 2 years ago though.

He's very good about that and did the same for me, but a taper doesn't allow for the bent elbow.  I know that it bound up the arm uncomfortably if I tried to make a curling motion- which could possibly interfere with my beverage intake ability.

That happened to mine. Nitin did send me several hundred rings and rivets as well as some assembled mail to fix the problem. Since I'm leaning 14th century transitional now, I may just slit the elbow/forearm area since the effigies show that over the vambrace anyway.

That's a heck of a lot easier than tailoring in elbow pockets and armpit gussets. :)  The slit might even alleviate some of the shoulder binding since the whole arm can effectively slide up as your raise your arms overhead.  With a tight sleeve, since it can't slide freely, the armpit gussets become more of a necessity to free-up the shoulder.  Taper alone eliminates bingo wings, but it can introduce more binding at the elbow and shoulder.  Then again, bingo wings bind at the elbow too just by the sheer excess mass of rings in the way of movement.  Isn't mail fun??

Nice to know I've got a project ahead when I get mail. Joy.

IceFalcon tried to get it going with his mail supplier (which I'm pretty sure is Indian too). It needed 6 people to buy sleeves and I think was either no extra charge, or something nominal ($50 maybe). I already had a set of standard sleeves on order with him that I couldn't change (and were WAY too daggone big after 1 1/2 years of waiting).

They had a template and everything. MacPherson and Wade Allen made it happen, and the community couldn't manage to pull off an order of 6 sleeves. Not 6 each, just 6 total. Disappointing, to say the least.

I remember that; it was ~$600 a pair, right?  More than I had to spend at the time, but you are right, they almost had it.

I think it was around $600 shipped, but the regular sleeves were $500ish without tailoring (which I got, and were unimpressive)
