Being new to this forum, I would first like to thank Sir Edward for accepting me and my brother, Sir William for believing in me. I would very much like to learn of the deeds of the Knights of this forum.
My thanks in helping me in my endeavor to become a female Knight and follow in the footsteps of my brother, whom I look up to as only a younger sister can.

Welcome to the forum! If you're anything like your brother, you already possess the heart of a knight.

Welcome to the forum! :)

Welcome, sister. You are a worthy addition to this forum and I know that you will make a worthy addition to our Order.
A little background for the brethren, my sister champions the movement against modern slavery and child trafficking. She runs the Philadelphia chapter of the Stop Modern Slavery movement- aimed at rescuing at-risk teens and women who are caught up in the sex trade...a good number of them are immigrants who were simply pressed into service with none the wiser (except the victims themselves). Their only job is to rescue these women; they have services setup to help them once they've been rescued, including a halfway house that she volunteers most of her free time to, that isn't given to SMS.
She'll tell you that she looks up to me, but she is the true inspiration in our family. Most people pay lip service to this sort of thing, or donate money - but she puts in the time, the money and the dedication. She humbles me in all that she does. It is I who looks up to her. I am very proud. :)

Hello and welcome
G.

Thank you all for your kind welcomes. And to my brother, Sir William, you do flatter me. I do think it is our duty to help those less fortunate, and had I not had such role models in my life, such as my brother, I may not do what I do now.
-
pics of your kit pics of your kit! heheh
-
It'll be a wonder if I can get my head into my helm now lol
;)
Wolf, no kit as of yet...but I did bring her here so she could see the different styles amongst us knights as well as learn what goes with what time period. The goal is to build a kit for her eventually.
-
Well, one of the easiest ways to get started is to do 12th or first half of the 13th centuries. Mail, surcoat, and a nasal/conical helm, or one of those proto-great-helms. :)
-
Yes, that is what I had in mind but I will defer to her own tastes...who knows, she might want to make it a little more fantastical, we haven't really had the armor conversation other than 'I want it' and 'I will see what I can find out'. lol
-
Wow, you are truely a Knight at heart, at least by your deeds. I have a freind from high school who just returned from a trip to southeast Asia where he was doing the same thing. He volunteers with a group domestically that does such work and decided to travel oversees to help out there also. It's hard and sometimes dangerous work that these people do so you have my deepest respect.
-
Matthew, who is your friend? I ask because I got to meet a number of people who do that sort of thing overseas, specifically in Southeast Asia. You ever hear of Aaron Cohen? Formerly of Jane's Addiction? This guy is a real crusader...an inspiration. He came out to the SMS Walk in DC last year (my sister was there representing Philadelphia and I came in support) and spoke a little about it; I'm working my way through his book Slave Hunter but man...it is difficult to get through.

-
Yes, I am familiar with him, I'm a fan of his band but have not read the book. My freind's name is Tim Bradley. I'm not sure who he went overseas with, I believe the group is affiliated with his church but I'm not sure.
-
The book cuts no corners; it is gritty and disturbing.
-
Truly, if one knows a tree by it's fruit, then I already have knowlege that you have the heart of a true knight, a most valiant dame!
It would have been good enough for me to be from the same stock as Sir William here, but that's truly a feat!
Welcome! :)

A Modern Knight from Nepal (http://www.badassoftheweek.com/shrestha.html)
"....As if that wasn't bad enough, from a side door more armed thugs leapt into action, pouring into the train from the jungle beyond. Dozens of unscrupulous goons began making their way down the aisles, shaking down everyone for their sh**, stealing wallets, tearing jewelry from the necks of old women, snatchin laptops and cell phones, and waving knives in the faces of terrified hostages.
Despite the chaos around him, Naik Bishnu Shrestha just sat there quietly. Not saying anything. Not betraying his emotions. Even when the thugs took his own wallet, he remained silent. Like a true badass, he knew that this wasn't his fight. Just be quiet, give them what they want, and survive. It's just a few hundred bucks. It's not worth dying over.
But then sh** got out of hand. You see, it just so happened that Shrestha was sitting near a cute 18 year-old girl, and when this gang of baby-kicking terrorists came by her seat they decided it would be awesome to be the complete fucking slime of the earth and gang-rape her in front of her own terrified parents just for shits and giggles. The terrorist leader cut open her shirt while she cried for help.
That was fucking it. Bishnu Shrestha couldn't just sit by any longer. ..."

Ivan, he is certainly worthy of the title. Of course, the article you linked is a bit more sensational than what I'd read but the gist is the same...this man took on 40 attackers singlehandedly armed only with his wits and his issued kukri knife. I pray to God that I would act accordingly in a similar instance.

"Fighting the enemy in battle is my duty as a soldier. Taking on the thugs on the train was my duty as a human being."
He is beyond a doubt a knight of the highest caliber, akin to our order’s namesake!
-
Someone give that man a knighthood and an Albion! Gang problem solved! ;D
-
I do believe he deserves recognition and some form of award...that was above and beyond the call of duty!

If there's one thing I've learned in life, it is that you NEVER mess with a Gurkha.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1393355/Hero-Gurkha-handed-bravery-medal-Queen-said-I-thought-I-going-die--I-tried-kill-I-could.html (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1393355/Hero-Gurkha-handed-bravery-medal-Queen-said-I-thought-I-going-die--I-tried-kill-I-could.html)
A Gurkha soldier who single-handedly defeated more than 30 Taliban fighters has been awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross by the Queen.
In total he fired off 250 general purpose machine gun rounds, 180 SA80 rounds, six phosphorous grenades, six normal grenades, five underslung grenade launcher rounds and one Claymore mine.
At one point, after exhausting all his ammunition, he had to use the tripod of his machine gun to beat away a militant who was climbing the walls of the compound.
The only weapon he did not use was the traditional Kukri knife carried by Gurkhas because he did not have his with him at the time.
It's a good article. This wasn't a random soldier in a group that killed off 30-some people. He did it by himself, defending a checkpoint. I don't ever remember Rambo owning somebody with a machine gun tripod....
Yep. NEVER, NEVER, EVER mess with a Gurkha.
