SOLOMON KANE: U.S. RELEASE DATE, SEPTEMBER 28, 2012 http://onanunderwood5.blogspot.com/2012/07/solomon-kane-us-release-date-september.html (http://onanunderwood5.blogspot.com/2012/07/solomon-kane-us-release-date-september.html) the trailer is on the site! i so wanna see this. it was made and already released over seas. i used to know a guy that was an extra in it.
-
That looks pretty sweet! Hope it opens somewhere I can see it!
-
Already on the list of DVDs to acquire...I'm a big Purefoy fan so I'll pretty much watch anything if he's in it. Solomon Kane the comic series never struck a chord w/me but this looks to be a decent actioner.
-
:)
-
That looks really interesting. Seems like a cross between Diablo and Van Helsing. Cool!
-
Yea, but w/out the incipient humor (I hope). Van Helsing was ok, but I only watched it the one time. Diablo...the jones I used to have for that game is slightly embarrassing to admit to now. lol
-
I rented Solomon Kane off of VUDU last night and it was an excellent movie! :)
-
vudu? was that
-
Vudu is sort of like Netflix streaming. It's an online streaming service, and sometimes has more current TV shows than netflix. I don't know how much of their catalog is rent versus purchase.
-
They usually offer SD, HD and HDX and charge typically $4 for SD and one dollar more for each upgrade category. We've found it to be cheaper than 'On Demand' in most cases since there is no fee unless you rent. ;)
-
just wanted to let u know that walmart should have this now. i found it at mine for 10 bucks. i am planning to watch it this weekend and will let u know how it is. as a HUGE fan of the novel i am really excited
-
I saw this a few months ago on demand- definitely one for the collection!
-
saw it last night.
meh.
now i know what people mean when they get upset over the books vs the movies. this movie had nothing to do with the books. i think they wanted to give him a back ground or something. didn't even get the color of his sash right lol. it was ok for a movie, but the ending was blah... it was hurry up wait and its over. i saw 2.5 outta 5
-
Wow, it's a shame when they deviate heavily from the books. A certain amount is often necessary to make for a good film, but then they change details without need, or change the story entirely... then I have to ask, what was the point?
I may still want to see it though.
-
If you're coming at this from never having even heard of the books, will the movie still suck?

I think that's a very useful question. I haven't read the book either, so the whatever the movie brings to the table is all that will matter for me. :)
-
its ok then for a movie. i guess lol. the ending was way to quick for me though

Wider target audience /marketability, I'd guess

I never read the books, but the movie drew me in and kept me. Helps that I'm a Purefoy fan and I'll watch pretty much anything he's in medieval-style; haven't watched The Following, wasn't interested despite the fact that he plays a very charismatic serial killer.

Saw Solomon Kane last night. I'd say 4 out of 5. Some cliche bits as expected, some parts nicely done. It almost felt like it should have gone in reverse. I thought the opening was great, and the ending a bit more lacking. Haven't read the books or heard of him before this thread, so nothing stood out as "wrong" to me.
-
Yea, that opening scene really established him as the bad guy- but I think a prequel might better serve to show how he fell from grace in depth, than to have reversed the story. But then, I never read the books so I can only go on the feel of the movie. Caught it again a couple of weeks ago...
-
the thing is, in the books all that never happened. its not there why he's always on a crusade against pirates or africans
-
Sounds like I should read the books, then because now I want to know.

The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane by Robert E. Howard really one of my favorite books ever. its like a collection of some of the short stories

This'll really make you laugh- I am a HUGE Conan fan...my first intro was via Marvel Comics so I've never actually gotten into the source material, but I had NO idea REH wrote Solomon, too. I liked Kull the Conqueror too. Wow...that's pretty awesome. I still get a kick out of the old REH physical description of Conan, same size as me and I'm nothing like him. lol
-
looks like a fun film.

Hi
Watched this movie last week. I never read the books. I need to look into them. I thought it was a good movie. Some parts very well done. Some of it seemed to be cartoonish not graphic novel like. 3.8 out of 5

I finally got around to watching this last night. I'd say it's OK, but somewhat forgettable. Purfoy's performance was just fine, but the movie felt a bit clichéd, and the story didn't have a lot of depth to it. The whole crucifixion (and suddenly healed after it) thing felt like it was rushed, and just thrown in to add some false drama.
But for having some swordfighting action, and giving the character a reason to redeem himself and so on, it worked OK as a mediocre medieval adventure. :)
What's funny is that it almost felt like they were trying to take the plot of Dragon Age and work it into a movie. Like it was a rising of the Darkspawn or something. :)
-
Oh man, if they ever made a movie based on Dragon Age, it would have to have the financial backing of a Hollywood blockbuster, but I'd want different writers. lol
-
Its on netflix, Ill have to watch it sometime.
-
just heard they are working on a second one today
