Title: knights pages
Post by: Sir Wolf on 2011-06-19, 03:31:46
so who all has been keeping up with their pages? i added 2 more pictures to mine. i really wish i had something more though. i have no story line like Sir Williams. his page makes me seriously envious of his creativity. :)

ideas? thoughts? how to make improvements on each others pages?

It's been a while since I changed anything on mine, other than one picture a week or two ago.

The cool thing is that you can sort by update-date and see who has changed their pages recently. I don't think the date takes into account picture replacement though.

Yeah, I need to update mine a bit. I'll have to see if I can find some time this week to do it and maybe add a new picture. In July I should be getting my peascod breast and back from Illusion Armory for reenacting, so I'll definitely have to get a new pic up then.

Wolf, thanks...I sorta winged that one as I was reading up on Marshal at the time and linked myself to him as you saw.  One of my little hobbies is writing...I'm good for short stories but for some reason, I've run into a wall that I've been unable to scale, circumvent or bring down and you'd think, given the subject matter, I should have no problems.  But I do.

Anyway, all that to say- I do update my page from time to time, usually w/pics...I didn't think anyone read what I'd written so I didn't bother expounding...but I had something pretty heavy in mind.

Thanks Sir Gerard...I wrote that one up in about an hour or so.  I wish it would flow as easily for this novella I am trying to write.  I am up against the wall with no relief in sight!

He cursed you...what'd you get as a result?

Now ask me to write up a SOP and that could take forever...hard to write about that which you are not enthused.  lol

The Teutonic knight kit ought to be mostly completed by the end of august. What I still need is the padded chausses, maille/plate finger gauntlets, the hauberk, and the coutars. I have already placed my order of polyens w/ allan. The cloak and surcote also should be completed soon. On my own ill need to finish my cheater chausses and tailor the hauberk and coif. And a shield. Ill need that too.                  Later on for my birthday amd christmas ill be looking to aquire a great helm and hourglass gauntlets

I added a couple pics to my page tonight. I'm going to try to get a few more this weekend at PaRF. Hopefully at least one will turn out pretty nice, I'm anxious to show off my new peascod breast and back that I got from Illusion Armoury. I'm hopefull my buff coat arrives from the UK in time for this weekend because I think that will look pretty sweet under this armor.

What is a buff coat?  I've seen you make mention of it a number of times and I'm assuming it is an arming coat of some sort...coming from the UK it has piqued my interest.

A buff coat is a heavy leather coat or vest worn by itself or under armor in the 16th and 17th centuries. Infantry versions seem to have been largely sleeveless, while cavalry versions had sleeves. The 16th century coats ended about the waist, like doublets and vests at that time, 17th century buff coats ussually had "flaps" hanging down to just above the knee, similiar to jupons. All in all, I would say they are the successor to the arming doublet, aketon or gambeson of earlier periods. They were sometimes also worn alone as protection from the weather or swords as they were said to be tough enough to stop a sword cut, or with piece plate like an almain collar. They are very versatile for creating an "armor look" in that regard. I'm planning on ordering an almain collar from Allan at Merc Taylor to do a border reiver impression.

I got my buff coat from the UK, nobody in the States carries them that I have been able to find. www.re-enactmentsupplies.co.uk (http://www.re-enactmentsupplies.co.uk) us where I got mine from. Medieval Fightclub from Australia also carries them, price is about the same, but shipping is more as would be the wait time for those of here on the east coast. I got the coat today and I am really happy with it, I ordered the sleeveless version to use with my peascod breast and back, but I think I'm going to try to save up some cash over the winter to order a sleeved version to wear for my border riever impression and another sleeveless version to turn into a 16th century example by removing the skirting.

Come on, you know you totally want to join us. The buff coat is the ancestor of the modern leather jacket, so we're kinda like a period gang, but with cooler weapons.

But of course!  But I've got to complete this 14-15th C kit before I can move forward.  Really like the idea of that buff coat...I'd wear it regularly knowing me.  lol

By the way, Frater, I caught your pic uploads...you definitely have the look down, I like it.
