Hi All,
We are discussing on FB who should play William Marshal in his bio film or TV show.
The actor can be living or dead. Who do you feel would portray William Marshal the best?
Thanks

Young Marshal = Luke Evans
Old Marshal = Russell Crowe
-
jack palance
-
Old Marshal = Jonathan Goldsmith, The Dos Equis “Most Interesting Man in the World”.
-
+1 on Crowe
-
Liam Neeson for old
-
Jeff Bridges
-
Gary Bussey LOL

I'd go with a two-part series in the vein of The Greatest Knight and The Scarlet Lion- both books on the Marshal's life, split into two parts, by Elizabeth Chadwick.
Young(er) Marshal: Liam McIntyre (played Spartacus, seasons 2-3); Luke Evans is also great choice, or Henry Cavill, or Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister on GoT)
Old(er) Marshal: Liam Neeson (he played a similar character as the Baron d'Ibelin in Kingdom of Heaven) - best choice, Crowe would be a great second
In the research materials I've gone over in the past all personify the Marshal as imposing in both physical and charismatic attributes so I purposely chose actors who can bring both to the big screen.

The funny thing is it is Elizabeth Chadwick's FB page on the Marshal that is discussing this. All of your nominees have been suggested except for Liam McIntyre

McIntyre's got the chops and athleticism; he's already proficient with a sword and being on horseback- of course, he'd need to learn how to do it medieval style rather than Romanesque but I feel he'd give the role its just due. I like Coster-Waldau the best though, for that role at that age (30s - 50s lets say).

Thou art going to be in much pain and swallow much blood, Over a shilling

Maybe Charlton Heston

Maybe Charlton Heston
You are six years too late, alas! He might've been able to pull off the Marshal nearing the end.

Well Timothy said an Actor living or Dead. But if dead then Id have to be more specific, Young Charlton Heston

I would suggest David Wenham (he played Faramir in LOTR). I think he could do a great portrayal of the greatest knight.

David Wenham...yes, I think he could do it. Or Sean Bean for that matter, forgot to include him.

Sidney Poitier!
