Title: I think it's time for another cutting party....

It's summer time and the targets are starting to bloom.  8)

When?  The more advance time the better my chances are at making it!  On another note, I have jury duty starting Monday- already been thru the selection process so it will be an actual trial.

Congrats, and condolences. :) So far I've never been to trial on a jury. Every time I've been called in, it's either not gone to trial and they sent us home, or we ended up not even having to report in to court.

I'm free on a variable basis. This weekend is already partly spoken for, and next weekend is NHSC. Later in July I'll be out of town for a wedding. August has two busy weekends as well, since I have a convention, and MDRF opens at the end of the month. So I have about 50% of my weekends available.

My weekends (usually just Sundays) are free except for July 8th. We need to also consider some of us needing to make a trip to the Philadelphia area for Sir John's knighting ceremony fairly soon.

Yes, there is also that.  Are we all looking to attend?  I think it'd make his day.

I didn't have any particular date in mind for a cutting party, I'm not sure what I have open but figured I'd toss it out there and see who is free when and see if I can shuffle my stuff around accordingly. Looks like Sundays are the best bet? How about July 15th?

I'll cover Sir John's schedule via PM.

I think I can do the 15th. The weekend before is NHSC, and the weekend after I'll be in Colorado watching the world burn (not really, we'll be out there for a wedding, but hopefully the fires will be out by then).

I'll admit, I was of the same mind- initially, at least.  Condolences.  So many of my contemporaries seem to have a number of different reasons as to why they shouldn't have to do jury duty, or simply don't want to- but it is an important civic duty and while I have been called before, I never got past the waiting room.  Its funny that I have allowed so many points of view to influence mine own, without me really knowing what it was that I didn't want to do.  I salute the members of this Order for helping me to realize that I need not view the world through my usual cynical bent...that people deserve their fair shake whether or not I agree with their actions, or the consequences that follow.  I thank you fine gentlemen- you may not know it, but my acquaintanceship and later membership in this fine Order has made me want to be a better man, a better fellow human, a better knight, and strive to be so.

So, now I'm both excited and apprehensive at the prospect, as well as dedicated to providing as impartial a view as I possibly can.  You know me, that's going to be the hardest part.  Keep you all posted.  ;)

Excellent! Let us know how it turns out.

The last time I got tapped for jury duty, I was somewhat disappointed I didn't get to go to trial. Relieved, but disappointed. As you said, it's an important civic duty, and we have to remember that the right to a trial by a jury of your peers is one of the cornerstones of our justice system. How can we expect to have rights if we don't take the time to support them for others? It's an honor to participate.

Nothing on my schedule for the 15th, save a church service at 10:30. Counting about and hour and a half for driving, I should be able to make it there around 12-ish.

As someone hoping to practice law someday, I thank you gentlemen very much for your support of our legal system.  :) I hate it when people take a natural aversion to their civic duty or the justice system in general.

I'll probably mark the whole day, and people can arrive and depart as their schedules dictate. As long as the date is good, any time after 8am is fine with me.

So far the 15th sounds pretty good.

I think I can manage the 15th...my eldest daughter may be coming in to town but she'll be leaving Sunday.

So the 15th looks pretty solid for everyone with a mind of attending. Will this be at Sir James' house again and what time do we want to start?

I have the whole day free, so whatever time works for you guys will probably be good for me too.

I'm free from about 9am til 8pm, so any time is fine with me. My 'squire' from VARF expressed substantial interest in attending too. I hope that's okay?

Sure! btw, does anyone have any extra leather straps I might get from them on Sunday? I'm thinking of changing the strapping on my old shield to something more period. :)
Title: Re: I think it's time for another cutting party....
Post by: SirNathanQ on 2012-07-09, 21:49:32
I'll bring the leather bag. They're not in straps, but a sharp pair of scissors can easily change that  :)

How long do you think you'll need them?

Straps similar in size to what is on my newer shield from MT. :)

Post by: Sir James A on 2012-07-10, 12:29:03
I have some leather but it's a bit on the thin side, and doesn't resemble straps yet. :)
Title: Re: I think it's time for another cutting party....
Post by: Sir Brian on 2012-07-10, 13:31:55
Well I'll bring my old shield and see what we can come up with. I might take a quick ride over to Tandy leather on Saturday to pick some straps up as well. :)

Post by: Sir William on 2012-07-10, 15:18:22
Brian, I still have the pauldron harness you gave me...we could cut that up into strapping for your shield.  Let me know if you'd like me to bring it with me on Sunday.
Title: Re: I think it's time for another cutting party....
Post by: Sir Brian on 2012-07-10, 16:41:34
Oh yeah that! If you don't have a need for it then it should work fine for the arm straps. I can always get another strap for the guige. Thanks! :)

No problem; I'll pull it out of the chest tonight so I remember to bring it on Sunday.  I'll probably get there around 3pm.

Uh oh, Looks like the weather is going to be against us this Sunday with thunderstorms and 2-3 hours worth of rain in the forecast.  :-\

Maybe they don't know what they're talking about. Fingers crossed. :)

Perhaps a good idea to bring Carcassonne and Wabbit Wampage as "wet weather" alternatives? Or shop projects? Or a movie? I have these at the house (http://james-anderson-iii.com/medieval-items/pages/movies (http://james-anderson-iii.com/medieval-items/pages/movies)) - but can't find my Beowulf DVD. The rest I know I have, and I need to add "Ninja Assassin" to the list.

Has everyone seen the Warlord with Charleton Heston? Oh and I'll bring Wabbit Wampage as well. :)

I'll bring Carcassone. It's a very good game.

Yep, I've seen Warlord, but it's been a while.

If the weather's going to be crappy, I'll not be able to come.  If that becomes the case though, Sir Brian, I'll ship you the straps so you can have them asap, ok?

Lets just hope it is the usual spray and pray that the local weathermen seem just barely capable of...honestly, a 50% success rate for forecasting?  I can flip a coin and do just as well...which is probably what they do.  How come they never saw that derecho coming?

Not that I did either...but I always hated meteorology.  Imagine my surprise when I attended the first class and found out it was about the weather.   >:(  And the Prof lecturing was so dry...so dull...lol

There's a 20% chance of rain when I just checked it. Better than the 50% before.

I got the area mowed and weeded for us, so that's good to go. No control over the weather though ... yet. :D

Any time after 10am should be good for me. I'll need to leave around 7 / 7:30 to take the young squire back home, but aside from that, the whole day is free and my wife is gone so we have run of the house for whatever we decide to do - swords, movies, games, etc.

I just got home about a half hour ago and drove 3 hours today, so I'm a bit tired. Have to get in some Castle Crashers before sleep though.... see you gentlemen tomorrow.

I should be there around 11-ish and I have all day as well. I have to go through my old messages from you James to find you address and print out directions again. See you all later today! :)

I'm moving a little slower than intended this morning, so 11-ish is about right for me too.

I'm bringing Carcassone and Cathedral, the scoreboards, my new helm, practice gear, foam targets (pool noodles) and their cutting stand, probably only 2 or 3 sharps, USB thumbdrive for the video file.

Trying to think if there's anything else I need.

It was called early due to lack of time. We we starting the second fall, but it was after 7:30. I had to get my brother and nephew home, which is ~125 miles round trip and 3 hours. Sir Nathan had 30-some points, and none of the rest of us even broke 20. There were plenty of wompings though!

I completely forgot to ask my dad for his high speed camera for the day. I was hoping to get some cool "water exploding" bottle cutting pics.

I don't recall anybody taking any pics. Maybe you'll just have to make it out to our next one? Or we bring it to you? :)

The game was somewhat imbalanced after the first turn, so after you left it became less about points and more about looney-tunes style badassery  ;D
