Title: WANTED: used chainmail coat and full gauntlets.
Post by: Mustafah Ibn Melon on 2014-04-11, 02:31:46
Title says most of it, the only thing not added is I am looking mainly for something not in the best shape. not rusted through, but needs some TLC. partly because of the look (as a persian sellsword who just stripped what was needed from his enemies), but also to save my wallet (seeing as an e-3 in the military doesn't make that much). Remember, functional and heavily used are key. can do paypal if you are willing to send an invoice to my email, and if you are in southern NH I will be willing to come for it myself. hit me with what you got!

Well, I don't have any maille to give, but just to make things less broad, what style Maille are you looking for?

Excellent question Sir Aiden. I was looking at unriveted mail to start off, full length hauberk with short sleeves. again not looming for expensive materials (like aluminum), so just a basic chain mail metal would be good, so I can get started off. as for gauntlets, a simple clamshell or milanese glove style should do nicely.

I have some aluminum clamshell gauntlets that are lightweight and protective and a bit battle worn but not beat all to hell; I could let them go for $50 + shipping.

I've got a riveted maille hauberk with shortened sleeves and a matching coif that are up on the block but that might be a tad too rich for your tastes.

Got pics of those gauntlets?

And how much is the mail?

For sca combat you definitely want riveted maille...butted usually doesn't do well with the blunt force...

Ahhhh. Another forum person in New England. I'm your man in Massachusetts here. I got some old stuff to let go as I am cleaning house. Talk to me. :)

I have a mild-steel butted half-sleeve maille haubrek that has some small battle holes but in great shape. I have replacement rings for it just never patched. I have some plate stuff to get rid of too. Full legs, 3/4 arms (battle worn), one Pembridge style Great Helm (battle worn), etc. I have to sort it but I will let it all go cheap if you want any of it. I'll give it free if you pick it up. Most of it has been used in blunted steel battle tourneys and held up but some dings and battle wear. You can look and take what you want but I want to get rid of it.

I need to clean out my apartment of lots of stuff. Wife is all over me but needs to be done.

Lord Dane, where are you situated in Massachusetts?
I would be interested in the mail and possibly other tidbits.

Don Jorge, I appreciate the advice and normally I would not go into butted mail excelt for the simple fact that I cannot afford the riveted mail at the moment. Just call this a starter kitin chainmail armor.

This is the butted hauberk I have, It is 115 now, I bought it for 150.
http://www.armorvenue.com/xir80812.html (http://www.armorvenue.com/xir80812.html)
But I don't know if the cross will interfere with the persian sell sword. You could just wear something over the chest.
Haha, I am reading the comments and someone said one of the pros of it is that it is Authentic.
Poor misguided Child.

As for gloves, Here are some decent priced mail gloves.
Riveted for 75
http://www.medievalcollectibles.com/p-5871-padded-riveted-chainmail-mittens.aspx (http://www.medievalcollectibles.com/p-5871-padded-riveted-chainmail-mittens.aspx)

And some butted for 45.
http://www.medievalcollectibles.com/p-5870-padded-butted-chainmail-mittens.aspx (http://www.medievalcollectibles.com/p-5870-padded-butted-chainmail-mittens.aspx)

If your looking for plate Gauntlets, Or just more than just mail They are usually very expensive and finding used ones may be a challenge.

I'll get you some pics, Mustafah - of the gaunts and the maille (in case you're wanting riveted after all, I have a hauberk and matching coif); I'll see if I can take them tonight.

Well, a free butted hauberk trumps a $250 flat ring riveted one (including the coif), that's for sure.  Depending on what you want to do with it, that is.

these mitten gloves suck. i took mine and cut them down to fit a human hand but the thumb is in the wrong place and make it very awkward to hold anything

Just to jump on Mustafah's thread, I may also be looking for some plate gauntlets suitable for steel sparring. Ideal if mid-14th century, but if not, my fingers probably won't mind :)

Lord Dane - if the helm is still available, I might be interested, thanks.

I'll be putting a list of all the gear I am departing with shortly. Mostly used but in good shape and well-deserved battle gear. Survived many real steel battles in it. I'll need to take pics of all of it and post.

Sir Gareth - which one ?? The 16-gauge mild steel Pembridge-style Great Helm?? I'll post it if you like.

Sir Gareth
One 14 gauge (not 16) heavy mild steel Pembridge-style Great Helm w/ battle wear from steel combat to the crown (top). Took many head shots. Has no liner and is used but tested and rated for SCA. It has seen some fighting as you can see but is good for heavy list combat or practice. The oculars give good vision forward and ventilation is decent. Sell for $60 plus S&H.

One pair of 14 gauge heavy mild steel demi-gauntlets with black leather straps & nickel hardware. Shown with padded leather gloves (not included). Has some minor scuff marks from heavy list fighting but proven protection. Never got hit and hurt in these. Sell for $40 plus S&H.

Let me know. Have lot to get rid of.

Memory issues. The pics are on my phone. Ill rectify on my laptop this weekend. I actually have so much armor gear, I can battle ready 2 more knights in full plate minus breastplate. If you guys want some practice gear, I have plenty of sturdy carbon steel stuff and mild steel. List forthcoming.
