I have a slight problem. I bought this helm about 4 years ago maybe. I was young and didn't really care about how historically accurate my stuff was. Maybe one of you could figure out what it is because I have NO idea. When I bought it, it was called "heavy duty sca helm" with no teal description from swordsandarmor.com.

I've seen similar helmets in late 13th early 14th century art. Used mostly with maille armor, I'd bet this is more early 14th century, as earliest as I would say would be 1290 possibly.

Its larger than a suger loaf, trust me my brother owns a suger loaf. Just look at my profile pic, its the helmet I am wearing.

I've been fighting in the SCA for 13 years, and a member for 32 years, and I've never seen one like it. Obviously it's too big, and as you know just cause a seller claims a thing doesn't make it so, but I would guess a Deepka Visored Sugarloaf helm? There are historical examples *kinda* like the one you wear from the Czech Republic.

The helmet isn't too large, yes bigger than the suger loaf my brother uses, but my pic may be decieving do to the fact that I am 16 years old. Im going to guess it is about 14 gauge do to its heavy weight (which actually kills my neck) maybe its just a made up helm. All I know is that when I bought it, it was the last the last one in stock. I think one of the main reasons I keep it is because of its uniqueness and makes me stand out as saying "one of a kind". To me it looks like a Visored sugerloaf mixed with a bassinet. Holy Cow! That is inspiring! I needed that. I will get a new helm in the future anyway. I just was wondering because, i could never figure it out.

My helm is also a sugarloaf, you just can't tell with crest on. I agree with Thorsteinn that it is a Depakra visored sugarloaf. I believe they still sell it on Kult of Athena.

Sir Patrick's link is very close. I'd also guess Depeeka.
It's still different in the lack of brass, yours has a plume holder, and yours comes to a sharper point in front and has a rolled lower instead of flared. Yours also has a locking pin instead of a sneck hook. Few other differences. Might be an older version, or some random armorer modified a pattern and made their own variant.
I agree it doesn't look overly historical. I don't remember seeing any earlier helms with plumes; crests / mantle / torse, yep, but not a plume specifically. Prior to my specific century or two of interest, though.
It's a fairly unique helmet.

It is probably based off that helm, but the blacksmith may have designed his own version. Again, I bought it from swordsandarmor.com. It is a fairly heavy helmet. It feels to be 14 gauge for my brothers sugarloaf is 16 and it is heavier, but also wider. Its strains my neck though, probably either because im young or its too heavy.

no. i am betting it is 18 gauge. 16 at the most.
you bought the helmet from an importer. they are made in India or Pakistan. They are loosely based on some period helm.
its a cool helm and if you like it , it works for you man. but as far as historical it's not. well not really.. know what i mean? :) i mean i like it and if you like it then wear it hehehe.

Haha well i did spend money on it, and it is unique, I'll probably make it my "tournament" helm or something. I'm going to put a green plume in it anyway from by-the-sword.com because that is the only place I can seem to find a plume.

Heh, I could be mean and say "grow a pair", but I'm going to do the exact opposite. :) I completely, 100% understand. If you're at all an introvert, it's like there's a wall blocking you from contacting a total stranger.
I often find email and facebook to be significantly easier than calling. :)

Museum Replicas has them, it's where I got my black/white/red plumes from. They're like $7 each, and ostrich feathers. Holding up pretty well, it's lasted for a full season, no sign that it's going to "fail" soon, nothing fell off of it - but I don't fight with it in.

Yeah, Hal's a cool guy, don't be intimidated. I'm not much of a phone person either. I have random hearing issues from too much loud music and too much hammering on steel without ear protection when I was younger. I'm sure he wouldn't mind an email. He's on my Book of Faces friends and he buys/sells stuff as a business - he'd probably have a good idea.
