oy vey! :o
Them boys play rough! ;D

Yeah, it's not something I could do, but you really have to respect that they're getting into the spirit of the original tournaments.
I don't trust my own armor not to hurt me, and I don't have enough well-fitted and well-padded stuff to do this without getting badly injured. Not to mention I can't do something where I have a high chance of losing the use of my hands, and wouldn't be able to do my job.
Something that I find interesting is that despite all the body-checks, groin and back kicks, and all of that, there's little to be seen in the way of parries and deflection. They put a lot of emphasis on body-slams.

Bunch of p$&@*ies... if they were tough they'd use sharps :) haha
-
That looks like the group fighting elims and not the singles elims.
-
With all of this discourse on eliminations matches and tournament hardiness. I would jump into the fray fully armored and watch me defeat my foes with Chivalry and clever Prowess. ;)
On a serious note, the idea of the techniques is to "stun" the opponent or to make him loose his balance.

You think so Sir? Watch me take them out with a sharp. (Yep, the Short Knight - in training has gone into the list defeating Giants)
-
I was just playing around. I think it takes a certain level of bravery and toughness to participate in BotN style combat. And a good insurance policy.
-
Hahahahahahaha. I am fully aware Sir Ian. Only rolling with the joke. Yep I agree, insurance policy, good one. The secret is speed, agility and tough steel. ;)
-

Right, my understanding is that "eliminated" means you're on the ground, doesn't matter how many times you were hit.

That is correct for the large number engagements, for the 1v1 matches points are scored by hits. I will post rules for BOTN if you like I have them somewhere. I have quite a few friends on different teams for BOTN, mainly Poland, Italy, and USA. Now to find those rules
I recognize Krzysiek & Robert in video.

Rules for duels ^. Still looking for the other rules for group fights. I know there are You Tube videos/ Links in the linked web-site
for them but I think I have a paper copy somewhere.... still looking

Many thanks Sir Vander, much appreciated!

Correct indeed. My mistake for not including the hit scoring.

I have the link here somewhere of Duke Sir Jade of Starfall whomping on folks last year in the 1-vs-1.
Good news is this year The West's own Viscount Sir Dmitriy Shelomin, a native of Russia, will be with Team USA and helping with that pesky "no one speaks Russian on the team" issue.
-
Oh cool, I didn't know they do rounds with different types of weapons either. That's a much more detailed rule set than I expected.
-
Same here...to look at it, there seems to be no real rules. I would love to participate, but the level of fitness required is more than I'm willing to undertake as I'm lazy when it comes to the gym. Not to mention getting the kit, flights, accomodations- a lot of guys are doing some sort of fund raising in order to be able to fund the trip. I help out if/when I can as I would love to go- but not that much.
Who knows, I'm 40 now and I've got a little something to prove. There's always next year. Great vid, thanks for sharing.
-
That video is just ridiculous. I would love to get a nice fighting kit together and try BOTN sometime.
To people who doubt armour's effectiveness, I just send them BOTN videos. Without those harnesses, those folks would all be dead.

Exaggeration. They would just be more bruised than their egos. :)

Picture of helm from the French team.

lol isn't that what the armour is there to stop? lol

:o
If that helmet wasn't there ... I'd wager the skull doesn't take impacts like that too well!

Without armor, some of them'd be dead- most likely from blunt force trauma and massive injuries to the head, limbs and torso. Some of the shots those guys land would be lethal w/out their harnesses.
-
Remember the report that came out last year from the Team USA guy after the event wherein he mentioned the ambulance runs, broken shoulders, severed fingers, torn muscles, and blood?
-
Yes, but not a single casualty; the armor works.
-
They aren't pulling their blows, blunt or not, you simply can't take a full on polaxe blow to the head and be able to tell people about it afterwards.
They suffer injuries yeah, I'll grant you that, but they survive, and can fight another day. That in itself with the blows they are taking is a testimony to how awesome armour is.
-
Truly, and without said armor...they would no longer be of this world. No exaggeration there.
-
Just saw this finally and I was interested in the whole concept of BOTN since I first heard about it being talked about on IceFalcon's shop website.
