Title: Blackened & Brass Splint Bracers/Vambraces (Merc Tailor)
Post by: Lord Dane on 2015-08-29, 09:42:33
Hello all. Looking to acquire a pair of Merc Tailor's custom brass & blackened steel splint bracers or vambraces as displayed in the pic. I have the greaves already that I purchased on ebay. I want to complete the set for the armor kit I am putting together.
** I heard that Sir William or Edward might have some insight into this acquisition. **

As Allan is not in business anymore, I really want these. Finders fee and price negotiable. :) Let's talk.

Ask Allan to custom make them for you. It will be more expensive than what he use to ask for and he might be willing if you can provide the leather and any other material he no longer keeps in stock. Also if he is willing to take the commission, it would probably help if you pay 100% of it upfront.

Been there, done that Brian. No go.

Sorry fellas, Allan works a very full time job with lots of OT a good pay and sold off all his tools to cover the hole that swining a hammer had dug. I don't have anything close to a recommendation of who domestically might be able to do something like this as so many shops have closed up over the last 6 years of this stunningly great " recovery " of ours. You might get stuck having to go the Eastern European route. If I can think of anyone left domestically I will post them up but the choices are few these days.

Thanks Allan. I have hit up all the armorers who make decent splint armor. Armstreet won't do blackened steel or customize their product. He's probably closest to your handiwork. I will make it work or do it myself.

Good luck in the search, Lord Dane.  I'll keep my eyes open- I can't recall ever seeing that specific setup before.  Believe me, if I had- I'd already have them.  ;)

I made them as part of this harness a while back.

Only thing I can think of that might be close would be Mad Matt, since he'll do some basic customizing sometimes. Or you may have to go with a custom piece.

Probably this. There are not many folks left in the US after almost 7 years of this economy and most all are custom shops.

Hmm...I've seen that harness before but can't recall the guy's name.  Also, you might try WinterTreeCrafts- I understand that his house and shop are sited, built and ready to roll.  Erik makes a really good looking splint arm harness using spring steel; he might be up for some customization options.

The armor was made for Heath Bates

Do you know him James and how to contact him?? I bought the greaves he had made for this set. Go to assume the braces are up for sale or circulating with another.

He broke that harness up a while ago ( opened a restaurant needed start up cash ). I don't have any idea who ended up with the bracers.

I'm quite sure my breastplate is one of the last things he made which is depressing

Dane, no I don't know him, I have a bunch of pics of Allan's work and I saved some of the files as the name of the person he did the work for (I'm mildly OCD with armor pics...). No idea what went where, either.
