i wonder if they can be worn together like in period though. i would hope that they could

Yes I've seen that combination. I have always liked the Pembridge helms. I don't see how the
great helm wouldn't shift around though resting on top of the bascinet.   ???

Notice those small cross cut outs on the lower front? - I just recently learned from the caption
on a picture showing a statue of some Italian noble who had his helm resting on the back of his
neck. It was held in place by two chains that hooked into those cross-cutouts and were attached
to the clavicle area of the nobleman's maille.

Yeah, I read that it was more to keep the helm from shifting and falling off, but as a side effect they could take the helm off and hang it behind the neck when not in use. I can't imagine that being comfortable though. :)

Yeah, it would be cool if you could wear the pieces together.

i think the liner on the greathelm should keep it held good enough around the bassenit. be fun to try out though!

I've been comtemplating buying those myself. I want to finish my 15th century kit before I even think about armour from another time period, though.

I suspect that the two do go together. The photo with the gret helm shows the same aventail underneath it, and the text from the catalog even says, "Normally worn over another helmet," and they can be purchased as a matching set for $441. The lines and general shaping look pretty nice, too, for that price.
