Main > The Armoury
Thinking of buying this combination.
Sir Brian:
Although that would certainly be authentic for the timeframe of my kit, I sure wouldn't want to
walk around the renfairs with all that extra weight! ;)
Sir Edward:
I'd love to get one with aluminum plates... or relatively thin steel so it's not too heavy.
Someday. :)
Sir Wolf:
hehehe hey ed, when ya coming up? hehehhe
i have some thin metal and alum ;) the thin metal is galvinized so it won't rust too. hehehehe
got the patterns of a couple of different styles already done up too.
Sir Brian if theres something you like that you can't find out there or in a light enough guage etc, let me know ok? maybe we can work something out. :)
Sir Brian:
That’s very kind of you to offer Sir Wolf. I may eventually decide to make that addition to my kit, but I
was considering of perhaps sewing the brigandine directly to the inside of my surcoat. There is
a picture of a sleeping German knight in one of my books that plainly shows the outlines of small
plates which are apparently sewed directly to the inside of his surcoat. Of course I don't think
I have the courage to mess with my new and expensive surcoat, maybe I will have to experiment
with on my older surcoat, No worries on the plates though…I work in a ship yard so I have LOTS
of resources at my disposal! ;)
Do you have a link to a fairly simple pattern by chance?
Sir Edward:
Yeah, I guess we need to get together and do some armor work. Heh :) I guess it wouldn't be hard, with the right pattern for the plates... then just a smaller inner-surcoat that they get stitched into, right?
