This article was posted on the Archive "How To Translate Motorcycle Ad's on Revzilla" and I found it worth a few giggles. :)

BTW As american & supported as they are I don't want a Harley due to two things; Harley Guy's/Culture, and Price. I took the Riders Edge Course at my local HD dealership, it wasn't pleasant if you weren't into Harley's. It took me telling them "no, leave me alone" for 3 years before they finally did.

Hah, lol. I've seen similar "translations" in other topics too, and they're always good for a laugh. :)

So I've been asked by my dad to wait to see if he can convince my brother, who's in Argentina and not planning to come back to the USA. He's got a Honda Shadow 600cc. However there's another Shadow & an Intruder up for sale on Reno Craigslist.

Grr... I hate waiting.

Well it looks like my dad would be more than happy to get rid of my bro's bike by selling it to me. It's a 1991 Honda Shadow VLX 600 with 20k miles on it. He's not happy to discover said brother is wanting to store the bike in his garage for 2+ more years and doesn't really want to sell the bike. If I get it this is what I'll be buying (add windshield, seat damage, & stock signals. minus bags):

Last night I took the info from above & 2 hours spent doing research on used motorcycles has made my brain feel like it's filled with sludge. And the prettiest bike I research today, a purple '91 Suzuki VX800, is the one not made for 22 years (so parts would be hard to find).

I made a table with 7 metrics so I could track comparative values, valuations, deals, expectations, and longevity. I had an Aspie moment.

So we went on a road trip from Reno, NV to Susanville, CA today and added in a motorcycle sale. We got a 1993 Kawasaki Vulcan 750, but due to the seller not being home when we called afer the test ride to tell him we wanted it, and lots of wind & snow/slush having rolled in an hour later, we've agreed to pick it up later in the week.

So barring unforeseen issue, or the seller changing their mind, we should have 2 wheeled transport soon.

We got it for $1100. It's shaft drive and has 25,000 miles on it. The Shadow 600 is still going to be sold but we've yet to get a solid timeframe from my brother on when. So we said "screw it. bird in the hand time".

So it's here.
We got a 1994 Kawasaki Vulcan 750. 25k miles. $1100.
Saddlebags (not pictured), and windscreen inc. I can now go get groceries, apply to certain jobs, and hit the gym.

Just wait till I get LED's or, if I'm really lucky, Lumilor paint.

Thorsteinn, I wouldn't go crazy with this one- adding LEDs and jazzy paint and the like, at least, not til you've had it a while.  One thing I've noticed about new bikers- they rarely stick with the first one they buy.  That's usually to get them in the door - and then they find that one they gotta have.

My brother started riding back in 2001...he started with a Yamaha R6 and upgraded to the much faster R1 inside of six months (gave the R6 to his wife).  Then he started racing so he had three bikes; had a bad crash, took a chunk out of his knee, had surgery and got back on immediately.  They say if you can conquer that initial fear, you'll continue riding.

I never said he was bright, only that he's my brother.  lol

Anyway, it sounds like yours will be more for utilitarian reasons- he rode just for the fun of it, uses cars for getting around normal-like.
