Size comparison: 9mm rings vs 6mm rings
Sir James A:
Mathematically, 6mm is 50% smaller than 9mm. No shock there. However, for a visual comparison, I took a picture of a 6mm ring next to a 9mm ring next to common US coins.
If that seems a little bit too crazy, I've handled authentic 16th century 4mm mail. Yep, even smaller than those little 6mm rings!
(Note: Rings are from IceFalcon Armory - http://www.icefalcon.com/)

I had trouble pointing my arm harness to a 6mm hauberk because the space between links was too small for a normal arming point to fit through without an annoying amount of effort. Also it was about 20% heavier than my 9mm hauberk because there's so much more metal per square inch. But I will say that maille was like wearing a suit of liquid iron. A friend once joked that the mesh was so tight even the mosquitoes couldn't penetrate it.
Incidentally I'm selling that hauberk if anyone is interested LoL!

Sir Ulrich:
What size is that hauberk? Also is it scratchy on the inside and is it alternating rings? Is it tailored at all?

Be sure to mention that in the market square section of the forum!
Sir Ulrich:
I really wish I could find some round ring wedge riveted maille with alternating flat punched rings in 7MM. Only one I KNOW who sells that stuff is Erik Schmid and he has yet to get back with me over him getting his maille made in India. He did save my ass from a scammer who was using his photos and saying it was his own last year too so I am a bit more careful who I talk to about maille.
