"It wasn't the reward that mattered or the recognition you might harvest. It was your depth of commitment, your quality of service, the product of your devotion -- these were the things that counted in a life. When you gave purely, the honor came in the giving, and that was honor enough."

Yeah I'll be registering later this week. I heard that you can't sign up for both the LS open steel and LS synthetic tournaments since they will be running concurrently. Bummer really, If you and Ed are going, perhaps we could bring our armor and do some Harnischfechten pickup bouts and/or help generate some greater interest in the local HEMA/WMA community?

Once I see the final schedule and whether or not I am going to Longpoint, I'll have a better grasp on that. If we are doing classes & tournament for 2 days in a row, I'm not sure how much energy I would have for armored combat - especially with the time it takes to get me in and out of armor. :) If I go just to watch, shouldn't be a problem.

DRAT! i was gonna come down and just hang out but seems i have a ww2 event in ohio that weekend. well, i'll put it on the calender just in case i don't go

Why do you always get these things backwards? You're supposed to tell the ww2 people that you can't do that since you have a medieval event. Come on, man!  :-\

Well, they finally caught in to the fact that I tried to sign up for both Longsword competitions. I'm not sure I know which one I'd rather do. Hmmm..

They're working on the scheduling now, and correcting any mistakes in the tournament registrations. This looks like a pretty good sized event now.

It looks like they put you in the synthetic LS tournament. Is that the one you are going to stay with? - It is a much smaller pool than the Steel tournament.

Matt Walsh isn't listed, but he might be waiting like I am since I'm a bit unsure if I want to risk my only steel blade in those longer duels and potentially frequent buffalos that was at short point.  :-\

Yeah, originally they marked me down for steel. For now they've moved me to Synthetic, since I asked which one starts later in the event. Steel starts Friday morning, and Synthetic starts Saturday morning. I figured later is better, since I'm not 100% sure if I'll be taking off work or not.

Steel seems to have attracted a lot more people. It has a lot of capable people, and also a lot of people I don't know. I'm concerned about buffaloes too.

I've competed with synthetic before, but this is the first time I've seen steel used in a heavily competitive environment like this. I'm curious to see how well it works out. This is a case where I think the synthetics have a slight edge in terms of safety & comfort, simply in that they have wider surfaces, so it doesn't hurt as much. Theoretically it should be roughly equivalent, but it will depend a lot on the people.

It looks like both the steel and synthetic longsword tourneys are on Friday now, with the finals on Saturday:

I had them keep me in the synthetic longsword, as it's late enough in the day, that even if I end up needing to work that morning, theoretically I should still be able to make that.

But I also had them add me to the messer tourney on Saturday. That will be fun. I'm so out of practice though, I know they're probably going to destroy me. :)

Okay then I’ll sign up for the synthetic tournament. I noticed a couple of people are representing two groups so I’ll do the same with MASHS // Order of the Marshal. :)

Awesome. I'm looking forward to this. I probably won't get out there on the Thursday, but a lot of that is devoted to staff/judges anyway.

The...tiny tunic?

That would be this... :)

It's a child-sized tunic, for getting a volunteer kid from the audience at our demos, to hold the offering helm. The idea here was that whoever shows up last to the event, has to wear the child-sized tunic.... and hopefully at least a modesty sock, if nothing else with it... :)

I'm all registered up for the synthetic longsword. My entry brought the total up to 20 leaving only five slots left. ;)
