maille for doublet.....

(1/2) > >>

Dragonlover:
After looking through several on-line arming doublets, I was wondering if I would be better off purchasing mail to stitch to my own doublet? Sir Brian, if you, Sir Wolf, or Sir Edward would know
a good place I could purchase such pieces, (sheets?) drop a line if you please..... :D

Sir Edward:
I think The Ring Lord (http://theringlord.com/) will sell sheets.

If you want cheap aluminum butt-ringed sheets, it's hard to beat this option:  Buy a "chainmail T-shirt" from ThinkGeek, and separate it out into sheets yourself. (http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts/generic/9080/). Since they cost the same, I recommend getting the Large size. I did this for my chausses.

Dragonlover:
Many thanks Sir Edward, :)
I probably will go with the aluminum maille simply for the fact that this is
just going to sit under my plate. Easier to sew this on or use heavy lacings
would you think? Figure you, Wolf, and Sir Brian have more knowledge in this area.
 ;D ;D ;D

Sir Brian:
The one problem I would see with the sheets of maille from the Ring Lord would be the size
of the rings, which are what my gauntlets are made of and they would not be as close to
period as larger butted or riveted rings.  :-\

You may be better served by measuring the areas of your doublet where you'll want to
stitch the maille voiders onto and custom ordering riveted sheets.
This site looks like it might work:

Dragonlover:
Many thanks Sir Brian,  ;D
that was an aspect that hadn't occurred to me.I'll have to check this site out later.
I've been having Connie look at several examples of doublet to see what kind of stitching she's going to be in for... ;)
