Hello everyone!
« on: 2012-06-03, 04:51:04 »
Hail fellow knights and nobles! I am obviously new to the forums and I found the forums in fact by looking for a nice Templar shield (and thank you Sir Edward for the amazing shield, it is in great shape and is well made) and I soon found myself wondering the forums. I am working on getting a Templar suit of armor and slowly but surely, I'll get whole outfit. Some of my other hobbies consist of soccer, some video games, and of course having a fun time in general. I am quite busy for now, but hopefully soon I can find time and get more involved in the forum community. But thank you for your time (and the approval to the forums) and cya guys around the forums.

Have a Great day, and God Bless.

Thank you for the warm welcome guys. And I am located in Washington state, USA. I have a general feel for what I want for my kit, but im still keeping a lookout. The website i have mainly been using to find parts for my Templar kit is http://www.medievalcollectibles.com/s-3-crusades.aspx and of course ebay and other sites.
But I am always open to any and all advise for my kit. I currently have 2 swords (that I bought awhile back) and a Templar shield. I dont have too much money to spare atm, but hopefully that will be a temporary problem.  :P

I recommend starting a new thread specifically about your kit and the ideas you have for it if you'd like.  Some important things to note in it would be specifically what time period you want to represent (as close to a specific date as possible is preferable, since these things changed in great detail possibly from decade to decade), what region you want to represent, and then how historically accurate you want to be.

places like medievalcollectibles are great for costuming for conventions and ren faires, but if you have interest in going the historically accurate route, I recommend staying away from places like that.  We can point you in the right direction for options to get very historically accurate clothing and pieces for your hard kit (armor stuff).  I can't stress enough to do the research first before jumping in, or you will more than likely make lots of purchases you later regret when you gain more knowledge (trust us, we've ALL done this).

Tis true, we've all been there.  As exciting as it may be, slow down and take your time.  Discover which era and region most intrigue you before proceeding.

You are...and the advice we have to give will serve you well, whether your focus is more costume and ren-oriented, or historically accurate/living history oriented.  Medieval Collectibles, like Museum Replicas, specializes in the costuming side of things...their wares are generally durable and pretty well made, for off the rack stuff.  After years of using them myself I am now of the mind that I want it to be a bit more historical- so of course, that costs more, but it needn't break the bank.  Slowly but surely as they say.

Although, I should mention that I may be switching orders to that of the Teutonic Knights since they are a faith-oriented order, and still prominent in the 13th Century which is the period I'm currently focusing on.  I blame Sir Nathan.  lol
