Sir Brian,

I have the same concern for my sword blade.  I think I will give it a liberal coating of grease and then a wrapping in Saran Wrap to make sure moisure stays off the blade.  I plan on doing my own leather work too.  In fact, that this not as intimidating to me as getting the wood core right.  Thanks!
