Hmm...need to check into that one.  The 50s classic The Vikings starring Kirk Douglas is another one definitely worth watching.

Still cannot recommend Rome enough the story arc of Pullo & Vorenus is just great.

Plus the death of Cicero is a great take on the subject of state ordered assassination:

Theirs is a story of redemption, ultimately.  My cousin and I just recently watched all 22 episodes (I had the boxed set in my tv cabinet and forgot it was there for like a year)...it does get the blood up.  I actually like Rome better than Spartacus in that they really tried to depict how ancient Rome would've looked like, the interactions of the populace and overall how truly vulnerable life was back then.  I mean, you could be walking down the street, minding your own business and get shanked because someone else wants you dead and paid coin to see it done.  Also, while I do so love the 300-style flash of Spartacus' fight scenes, the pure viscerality, the ugliness of fighting and killing- Rome captured that in spades.  There's nothing glorious or high-flying about the fighting styles of Vorenus and Pullo...but they ARE highly effective.

Get the US DVD version and it will; you will of course have to turn it on, though.

A quick note on the American release of the Arn movie. It is actually a combination of the two films released in Sweden. It leaves much of his back ground and development information out. If all you can get is the US release, I recommend augmenting it with the books in the series. I have heard though that you can find both releases on YOUTUBE.

Also for knightly appearance, especially those attracted to the Teutonic Order and their crusading efforts in the North, I would recommend the DVD-Krzyzacy or Black Cross. You can find it on IMDB and battle scenes on YOUTUBE. All subtitled, and poorly timed and edited, but the scenery is fun to watch.

I have so many movies on Knights and the medieval times, that I have lost count. I can't remember the location on the net, but there is a listing of every movie ever made on knights and the medieval times.

I am currently re-reading Timeline, by Michael Crichton...and I got wind of this book because I'd heard of the movie, saw bits and pieces but never the whole thing.  Then I saw Albion had made swords for the movie years later, so I got the book because I'm a Crichton fan and let me tell you, I think its great.  So, I just ordered the movie on ebaY- if it is anything like the book, I'll recommend it for viewing...maybe even at our next gathering?

Watched Black Death again...still of the same mind, very gritty, but I still love it.

I saw Timeline, but haven't read the book. I hear the book is much better (isn't that always the case?), but we enjoyed the film. It's a little more "Hollywood" than the book, of course, and skips some details and changes others, from what I'm told. But we still got a kick out of it.

I read the book about a year ago and bought the movie several years ago when it first came out. Loved the movie even though it was seriously Hollywood-ized as Sir Edward said. The book was much much better! There quite a bit of plot differences between the book and movie but each are worthy of the time. :)

I figured as much...Hollywood will always get its way, no?  The changes made (I have read the synopsis of the movie a few times so I know what to expect) don't take away from the novel imho, but I will reserve commentary until after I've viewed it.  Kinda excited, I am.

I have quite a library of dvds and VHS tapes on knights and the medieval times. I took a chance and bought "Tomeline" that I really enjpyed, as I like sci fi as well as knights. It's about modern day archeologists on England who somehow go through a worm hole back to the days of the knights. It has an interesting story to it.

But I think one of the best movies is "The tale of Sir John and the rascals of Bihor" but then I am very biased since I made that movie. It lasts 1 1/2 hours and I plan to show it at my knighting.

I made several movies. I started in undergrad school with 8mm (later transfrerred to VHS) and my film group actually became an official extra curricular activity of the college. I made a western in upstate new york, and was surprised at the cooperation...literally the whole "Frontier Town" was at my disposal, stage coach, horses, steam train! Then I went on to make video movies after I got married. My last and longest one was "Gone IN the wind"...it lasts abour 2 1/2 hours...it took me 2 years to make.

Very nice. :) I've never attempted a longer film project. Most of my video editing has been short things for youtube.

Sir Edward,

Perhaps, if we get enough people to participate, we could make (another) movie about knights with the members of this group.
