Name of your Sword
Sir William:
Well done! I like it.
SirNathanQ:
Thanks, It also fits the Teutonic knight persona perfectly!
I also like yours Sir William. It's quite a pretty set up. :)
Sir James A:
I don't have a named sword yet, since most of mine are SLOs/budget-minded hanwei / tinker / etc type pieces. However, when I put out the money for an Albion and a nice scabbard, it already has a name.
"Messor animarum"
It's latin for "reaper of souls". :D
Behind the ominous name, it's a bit of a tribute to an old game called Soul Calibur, of which my favorite character is Siegfried/Nightmare. The endgame sword, Soul Edge, took the lives *and* souls of those it slayed.
(On a side note, this is very samurai-esque. They had a belief that a samurai's swords - daisho, the long and sword swords / aka katana & wakizashi - contained the soul of the samurai.)
SirNathanQ:
Hmmm...Do you mean the name of your sword or the naming of swords in general?
Because Scandinavian cultures regularly named their blades, which I wouldn't see as a stretch for the Germanic-influenced areas of Europe during later eras.
Sir William:
Thanks, Sir Nathan...that rig was done up by a young leather worker named Slayer...he is still learning his craft but he's gotten really good thus far. He'll be making our garters once I place the order.
